Can you link me to the article that explains how to secure your DB by changing jos to something else?

Thank you!

Hi Joomlad,

Is this what you are looking for?

Also I found a thread where Nick posted some great tips on how to keep your site/database very secured:

Hi,

I have an additional question concerning this topic. After I changed my DB to the new prefix, I noticed that both jos and my new prefix were now showing up in the DB. Can I delete ALL of the jos prefix lines from the DB without harm?

The quick answer is yes.

I would make a duplicate site with a duplicate database and delete the tables from the duplicate and make sure it works and doesn't break anything. It's possible there have been modifications to plugins or modules that could cause problems.

Better to test this in a safe environment and work on copies. Don't delete the orignal database no matter what, so you have it if you need it.

Cheers,
Ed

My site hasn't gone live yet and I have an Akeeba backup of site & db (jpa). Would it be okay to try deleting the jos tables, then if there were plug-in problems or such, to just restore the former jpa file?

The only thing you need to backup is the data base. Use Akeeba to do a database only backup, or use phpMyAdmin to export the file to an sql file. Then you will be safe.

The main site files don't need to be changed. If it fails just put the original database back on it.

The reason to make a copy is just good safety practice. I don't trust Akeeba backups. They don't always restore the way you want. I prefer just making a copy of the files and an export of the data base. It's good to have the backup just in case. You can't really have too many backups.
