I am using the Joomla 2.5 on local host (wamp server) to exerpiemetn and construct a new site. In the media manager, I want to put photos (using simple picture slideshow) and some mp3 using AllVideos. I have downloaded both plugins with the 2.5 compatability. But I am confused as to where to put my uploads. When I look at the new media manager, I do not see "images" as one of the subfolders...I also now see a new subfolder called "Sample Data" (where I put in my own folder "Seven Fountains" and put my pictures and graphics there....).

Both plugins say to put the uploads into the "root" folder and it says /images
but hwere is that??

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

What does it look like in the backend for your media folder?

Your media folder in backend should be your images folder in FTP.

Please screenshot and possibly show. :-)

Thanks!

PS:
For AllVideos -
You have to create two folders inside your stories folder.
The paths should look like this in your media manager.
images/stories/videos
images/stories/audio

"he paths should look like this in your media manager.
images/stories/videos
images/stories/audio"

I will work on it!

I attach two more files, to ask your advice again.

I am using Simple Picture Gallery and it says that my images should be kept in the root /images/

Does that mean that I do not put them inside the added /stories/
or how do i add a folder to the media manager....? a bit confused! Thansk so much.

and if i can add one more query.

I notice that (most of the time? all the time?) if I want to upload an mp3 file, to use in AllVideo, it has to be on th elive server, not the wamp server/localhost. Is that correct?

And is this true of any photos for use in Simple Picture Slideshow for Joomla 2.5 / (It wasn't for Joomla 1.5, but I am having problems trying to find where to put the photos for simple Picture Slideshow to find!).

Hi
AllVideo should work on local host as well as live server.
For the image gallery if you created a new folder (for example "gallery4") and placed your images in it then the path would be
/images/gallery4

using simple picture slideshow, i finally got it to work.
but the path (Joomla 2.5 on localhost) had to be

{besps}stories/simplepicturegallery{/besps}

I had to add both STORIES & the new sub-folder for the photos -- there was no "stories" folder in the media manager....does this make sense??
Tnanks

Hi Paul,

I'm glad you got it sorted out! :-)

It is ridiculous that you need to manually create these directories for this extension to work properly!

At least things are working now. :-)

You may also have a problem uploading because of the size of the vidoes. Check this tutorial.
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/media-man...d-size-in-joomla-25/

Or it could be a problem with maximum upload size. This will tell you how to deal with that by modifying your php.ini file.
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/installation-problems/

In Joomla 2.5 the stories folder is no longer needed. The media manager only accessed images/stories in 1.5, but in 2.5 you can place everything in the images folder. For All Videos, you do need to create an audio and videos folder and have the path correct in the configuration.

We do have a tutorial on using AllVideos, but you you might not need that at this point. Here is the link in case you want to review it.
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/using-allvideos-for-joomla/

If you can't get media manager to upload the files, you can always upload them to the correct location using an FTP client like Filezilla.

Let us know if that helps.

Cheers,
Ed

Ed, thanks for this reply.
I will check out each point as you suggest.
In the meantime, if I use firezilla, where do i upload the mp3 to....where is the audio folder that I create?
Thanks

I used firezilla and uploaded directly to the audio folder (I found it) and the program works perfectly. Success.
But I would like to explore a bit more and findout why I couldnot upload via media manager inside Joomla 2.5

Thanks

Hi Paul

I'd say that Ed was correct earlier. Almost certainly one of these two are the problem:
You may also have a problem uploading because of the size of the vidoes. Check this tutorial.
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/media-man...d-size-in-joomla-25/

Or it could be a problem with maximum upload size. This will tell you how to deal with that by modifying your php.ini file.
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/installation-problems/

Do you know how big the file was that you were uploading?
Ask. We'll help. It's as simple as that.
