To the best of your knowledge, are there any extensions available that allow users to sell items to other users via their profile, aka a marketplace (there should also be a global view to make it easier for user to find what they need)? I am looking for something simple and easy to use, that will allow the site owner to take a percentage of the sale.

That's a really good question. I haven't seen anything exactly like that. The closest thing I can think of is Ad Agency

To my knowledge, there isn't anything exactly like what you want, but that doesn't mean it's not out there. JomSocial is well developed, but still hasn't been pushed to it's limits.
