Is there anyway for a user to be able to register for more than one profile type in JomSocial. Upon signup i would like the user to create a user profile, however there might be users who will want to create profiles for bands, businesses etc. how do I go about having the same user create multiple profiles without having the need to create an account for each profile (essentially allow the users to manage many profiles the way Facebook does and not the way it is done with Twitter)?

Thanks in advance,
Chaim

JomSocial does have a multi-profile option. Here is their documentation on it.

www.jomsocial.com/support/docs/item/867-...ofile-explained.html

I am in the process of writing some tutorials on JomSocial and would be glad to cover this. I'd appreciate some feedback from you on whether the official documentation answers your questions.

If not I can try to expand my tutorial and cover your situation.

Please let me know.

Thanks,
Ed

Ed,

Thanks for the link. I had checked out their documentation before posting my question. It doesn't cover if a user can belong to/create more than one profile

To further complicate the matter:
  • Can i select by default what profile a user will be assigned to?
  • I plan on using the invitation feature from invitex (as I can use the ACl to limit who can send invites - unless there is a way to limit who can send invites with the standard JomSocial invite feature), is there anyway to configure what profile I am sending the invite for before sending the invite? (Essentially I have two types of members, ones who can send invites, and ones who cannot - as they are going to be site users; please let me know if you need further clarification.)

Chaim

I'm out of time for this week, and this is going to take a little research. I'll try to take look at this this weekend. Let's focus on your first two questions.

Cana user belong to/create more than one profile?
Can i select by default what profile a user will be assigned to?

I think your question on ACL is better handled in a separate post, otherwise this is going to get very confusing, since they really are two different topics.

Cheers,
Ed

Hi Chaim,

Jomsocial does not have a feature to allow a user to have multiple different profiles in the way that Facebook does. The closest feature is the ability for the user to be able to create groups. For example, a user can create a group for his or her band or business.

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Nick

@nick thanks for clarifying.

I was thinking about groups, but the problem is that groups aren't extendable (at least to my knowledge), I might go with sobi pro; what is the best way to integrate sobi pro and Jomsocial?

Hi Chaimk,

The only extension that integrates Sobipro and Jomsocial together is this:
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/extensi...pro-extensions/18159

Let me know if this is close to what you are looking for. Otherwise I don't see any other extensions for this. :-)
Warm Regards,

Tessa Mero
