Hello,

I am in the process of setting up my site map. The tutorial titled Creating a Joomla Sitemap in the SEO course says "Step 11: Go to siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit and submit the same XML version of your sitemap."

When I click on the link provided, I get a "webpage is not available" message. I also get this message when I cut and paste the link into a different browser - Chrome/IE.

Can anyone tell me what the right link is? Or is something else the problem?

Thank you!
Hank

Hi Hank,

That's the correct URL, however it's not working for me either. Hopefully it's just temporarily down and Yahoo will get it fixed soon. Could you give it a try a bit later?

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Hank and Nick,

I think it has to do with the transition to Bing. Read eg this: www.ysearchblog.com/2011/09/14/site-expl...ing-webmaster-tools/
Success!

Ah, yes; thank you, Maurice! I didn't realize that that had taken effect already. My how the time flies! :)

Thank you once again for the correction! I'll get the course content changed as well.

Kind regards,
Nick

@Maurice
I actually learn a lot every day while working here. Having helpful students, such as you and others, is a big part of that. :)

@Everyone
OK, the lesson has been corrected:

Thanks Nick and Maurice,

I think I now have it registered at Bing, except I may have screwed up. If you can help, I'd really appreciate it.

When it asked me to add the site, I forgot to go back to the tutorial and read carefully. Instead, I unthinkingly added my domain address (familytreemediation.net) and not the URL of my xml sitemap. I then entered the tag on my index.php file and verified the website.

Then when I realized I entered the wrong url, I went back, added a new site using the url for my xml site map and tried to verify it. The tag was already inserted in the index.php file so I didn't try to do it again. And I don't know where else I would insert it. Anyway, Bing said it was unable to verify my new site.

So here's my question, is the procedure the same for Bing as Google? Do you have to enter the url of the xml site map in Bing as you do in Google, or does Bing really want just the url of your site?

If the url of the xml site map is required in Bing and I did it wrong, what's the fix? How come it won't verify my url of my xml sitemap even though the tag is properly placed in my index.php head section, as evidenced by the fact that Bing verified it when I entered my url for my website?

Thank you!

Hank
