It depends on the version differences.

If you want to update a 1.5 Artisteer template to 2.5, it's more difficult.

However, if you're updating the same version, you'd have to export the template as a Joomla template then unzip it. Then you could FTP only the files that you want to update.

All images of the trial version will have "trial" imprinted on them, so obviously images won't be able to be updated.
