Hi, Our site does not display properly in IE9 yet works in Safari, Firefox and Chrome. If you select compatibility mode it will display properly. Is there a way to add code to the site, since potential customers are not aware of the compatibility mode.

Thanks,
Joan

Hi Joan,

Could you provide a link to the site's page that doesn't display properly?

Is it the front end or admin panel that is showing this issue? Is it the template or a specific extension?

Thanks,
Warm Regards,

Joan,

It all looks the same to me on each browser. I am also using Internet Explorer 9.

Could you provide a screenshot of what you are seeing on your end? PC or Mac? Have you tested on other computers? Is this a complaint by other users as well? :-)
Warm Regards,

Tessa Mero

Hi Tessa, This was reported by a potential client who is questioning our ability to help them. If I turn on the compatibility view on it displays properly. If I turn this off it displays like the pages attached. I am hoping to find a solution that will not require prospects to turn on the compatibility view. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Joan,

I looked at it as well in several different browsers including ie9 and they all look fine. If this is an intermittent problem they're tough to track down.

Run your site through a validator validator.w3.org/

You will get a lot of problems showing up. But the only way to do this is to make sure everything is clean as a whistle.

There are two possible sources for the problem. One being the template the other being add-ons running in IE9. Try running IE9 without any addons and see if it fixes it.

If you purchased the template, you should try to get some help from the developer. They may not even know there is a problem with the template, or they do and they already solved it.

Let us know how the validation goes. There is more than one validation service on the web. I tried looking for one that specifically checks for IE9 validation, but didn't see one right off.

Hopefully your client will understand the IE9 is new and all the problems and solutions haven't been discovered yet. It will be a while until all the problems are discovered and it starts working like other browsers.

Cheers,
ed

I did a little more research, and found that there is a known bug in IE9 that can cause this to happen.
It's a known bug in IE9. It doesn't like Helvetica. This bug only manifests itself if you actually have Helvetica installed which is why most people don't encounter the problem, but if you do have Helvetica installed and you browse to a site like validator.w3.org that (at the time of writing) uses this font, then part or all of the page won't show up in IE9.

The solution for visiting other people's sites (a drastic one) is to uninstall Helvetica on your computer, then IE9 will just use the next installed font listed in the page's CSS.

If you're a web site owner and you want to fix your site for other people, the solution is to remove Helvetica from your site's stylesheets.

So check your site and remove Helvetica if it's using it.

Hi Joan,

You need to update your Joomla version to 1.5.26 ASAP. Your current one has several security issues including one big one. The following tutorial is an easy way to update:

Kind regards,
Nick
