Hello all,

I'd like to build a database of interests & talents as well as contact info for a church congregation. I've not used any of the 'community' type extensions, but researching them seems to indicate that I can add any fields that are needed.
For example, What church ministries interest you? Maybe have a drop down list of activities to choose from. Or, a check box list with a choose all that apply instruction.
And, what business are you in or what professional skills do you have?
What skills do you have that you can use for small maintenance projects around the church? Perhaps list some choices: carpentry, plumbing, gardening, other:___
I want to be able to query the database. For example, search for members that are CPAs or carpenters, etc.
Any recommendations on a Joomla! extension?
Maybe I need to go to a specialized non-Joomla program... any comments?
Can I build an Access or Google docs database that will fit into a Joomla template?
Will some of the form builders dump the data into an Access type database?

Surely somebody out there has done this before... Help!

Thanks,
scubaJim

Hi ScubaJim,

Are you looking for more of a community type website? Check out the description on this:
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/clients...ties/communities/210

Or are you looking for something different from this?
Warm Regards,

Thanks, Tessa,
I have researched CB & even used the free version as a registration vehicle back when there was no 'captcha' in Joomla 1.5.
Before I spent the church's money to upgrade CB & add capability, I wanted to see if these specific needs would be met.

I want to create a database of interests and talents; and I want members to be able to easily search the database to find others with common interests or find someone with a talent they have need of.

Will CB do this?

Jim

Hi Jim,

The functionality you are asking for should be accomplished with Community Builder.

Here is a quote about Community Builder I ran into:
"One very important aspect of Community Builder to note is the ability to create highly customized user lists. This is beneficial when creating search results for types of users with different interests and abilities."

Does this help? :)

Thank you very much. Your search skills are better than mine... I couldn't find a comment like that.
As I said initially, it seemed that CB ought to accomplish this, but I couldn't find confirmation.
Thanks again, Jim
