Greetings,

This question relates to the sample data/layout that often comes with new templates.

I want to upgrade (migrate) a site from J! 1.5 to 2.5. The current site has a non-Yootheme template. I am an experienced Joomla user.

Can you briefly explain the migration procedure so that the result is:

The Yootheme template (could be any template from any provider) can be installed with the Sample data AND my existing data? I'd like to use the migration tool if possible.

I look forward to your response,
Cheers,

Gilles

Hmmm come to think of it, I think this may be a silly question.

I think all I need to do is do the migration using Jupgrade then install the template with the sample data and adjust the module positions.

Ooops! I thought it was too simple to be true.

A typical sample pkg comes in the form of a .zip where you actually run a full J2.5 install. This is not what I'm after. I simply want to install the template, with its sample data in an existing 2.5 site. The site has lots of content therefore I can't start from scratch.

Any ideas?

Hi Gilles,

Give either of the following two tutorials a try to move from 1.5 to 2.5:
1) How to Migrate Joomla 1.5 to 2.5 (non-commercial):
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/how-to-migrate-joomla-15-to-25/
2) SP Upgrade for Joomla 1.5 to 2.5 Migration (Commercial):
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/sp-upgrad...-15-to-17-migration/

Afterward, you can install your 2.5 Template Sample Data site and merge it with your upgraded site using Akeeba Backup's advanced exclusion features:
www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/walkt...-site-transfers.html

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Nick

OK, did you check out the Akeeba documentation that I provided?

Kind regards,

Thanks Nick,
my apologies, I had missed that one.
I wasn't aware of this feature in Akeeba. I'll have a good look at it now.

Sounds like the best solution.

Hi Nick, just had a read through the article.
If I understand correctly, this would not work as I'd undoubtedly have duplicate article IDs. Would I not also have duplicate module IDs or other IDs?

Let me know if I'm out in left field,

Gilles,

Have you looked at any of the import/export extensions that might allow you to just move the data?

You can always manually install a template by copying the template's folder to the new site and using discover to install it.
