How to set up a JomSocial membership group with parental controls 1 year 5 days ago #46725

Hello,

I have recently installed JomSocial on my Joomla 2.5 site and I am using the JA TEline IV template.

www.ghanaoracle.com/test

I would like to set up a junior members for my online community / website and therefore, I have a menu item called GHO Jnr which is part of my main menu. This will the area for the junior members of my magazine.

I would like the junior members to have their own separate area for logging in and interacting with each other hence having a separate menu item called GHO Jnr. I have linked GHO Jnr to the Home page for JomSocial.

Please can you provide me with some instruction on how to set the following for my GHO Jnr menu item.

1). Parental controls (whereby a parents email is requested, the registration request goes to the parent asking for permission) before a junior person registers to be a member of my magazine?
2). I would like to create articles (e.g. Things to do, Places to go) for this group (i.e. GHO Jnr). How can I create articles for GHO Jnr that would be visible as part of the GHO Jnr menu item?

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Many thanks,

Joyce.

Hi Joyce,

1) Unfortunately, Jomsocial does not have that feature. It does have an age restriction feature, however parental control would have to added by a developer. You can see a list of our recommended developers on the following page:http://www.ostraining.com/resources/joomla/developers/

2) You can create sub menu items or new sub menus which you can publish in module positions. If you'd only like them the Juniors to be able to access that content, then you'd have to create a new Access Control Group for them and also a new Access Viewing Level.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,

Thank you for your email.

1). Please can you explain how the age restriction feature works in JomSocial?
2). At the moment, when I login to JomSocial, I am presented with a page which has tabs for: Profile, Friends, Groups, Photos, Videos, Events. Can I add the articles (e.g. Things to do, Places to go) as additional tabs? I would only like the Juniors to be able to access this content. so:
2a). How do I add the additional tabs for the articles?
2b). How do I create a new Access Control Group for Juniors?
2c). How do I create a new Access Viewing Level?
3). If I wanted to create new tabs / menu items for all members to see, how do I do that?

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Many thanks,

Joyce.

Hi Ncik,

I have a problems with Language Overrides on my JomSocial site.
I contacted JomSocial about the language override issue and the said that it's a Joomla problem.

I have already posted this question and Ed is looking into it. However, I was wondering if you had exprienced a similar issue?

Please find attached a screen shot of my attempts to use the language override in the backend of my site.

Hi Joyce,

1) Go to Jomsocial >> Custom Profiles >> edit the Age field >> set the minimum age there (and maximum if you want it). Basically it restrictions anyone from registering that is below the age minimum (or above the age maximum).

2) Yes,
2a) As as you would any other menu item. Go to your Jomsocial Toolbar menu and add the menu items there :)
2b) See the ACL / User management section of our Joomla Beginner class and intermediate class:
www.ostraining.com/courses/class/joomla-25/j25-beginner/
www.ostraining.com/courses/class/joomla-25/j25-beginner/
2c) See 2b.

3) See 2b.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions along the way.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Joyce,

Would you post the language override issue in a separate forum topic please? Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,
