I was wondering how to remove the border around TABLES in the Beez_20 template, or any Joomla template for that matter. I went into the personal.css file in the Beez_20 and changed the TABLES border to 0, but that did not work.

I didn't know if i could do it via that JCE Editor, or I have to go into the template. I am pretty new to Joomla, and coding. But thanks to OSTraining tutorials, I am getting there.

Hi dbloniarz,

If you created the table in JCE then you would do it inside JCE. If it's a site-wide css feature, you would do it in the css style sheet.

You're on the right track for what you want to do. There is more than one style sheet that may be contributing the border.

Are you familiar with using Firebug to track down the css?
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/using-fir...it-joomla-templates/

And do you know about inheritance in css?

Another handy concept to know is the !important declaration in css. Here's a reference you can use to get some background on it and inheritance. www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/cascade.html

Let us know if that helps. If you have trouble figuring it out, ask more questions.

Cheers,
Ed

Hi and welcome
If you are using JCE editor then just click on your table, you will see the outline "highlight" then in the editor click on Tables- You will see that you can adjust the border cellpadding etc.

I tried to adjust in the JCE editor, but it didn't work. I will try the FireBug and go do the tutorial. Once I try it, I will try and see what I can find. If, I can't, I will be back in touch. Thanks

Is this a table that you have created using JCE in an article or module or does the table come from a "special" template feature?

In that case, you should be able to control it completely from inside JCE. You may not be seeing the change because you need to clear the cache to see the changes.

After a change, go to Site > Maintenance > Clear Cache and clear it first. Then look at it.

During development you might want to go through Global Configuration > System tab and make sure cache is turned off.

See if that helps. If not, try re-installing the JCE Editor. Maybe somethings not right there.

I tried the 'clear cache' and it didn't work. I will try to reinstall the JCE Editor, but I am not sure that is the issue.

Hi dbloniarz,

If you are still having this issue, please send me your admin login credentials to tessafenwick (at) gmail (dot) com and I would love to fix it for you. Please provide exactly which article this is coming from.

I don't make any changes but look at what to change, and then give you clear directions from there.

Please post here if you have emailed me.

:-)

Hi
This might be worth trying - JCE control panel >>Editor Profiles>>Default>>Plugin Parameters>>Tables(bottom of page). Make sure the default for borders is set to 0

Tried Mark's suggestions in the Editor Profiles. It was already set for the borders to be 0. No luck.

Hi and welcome, dbloniarz!

Could we get the direct URL to page that the table is located on? I'm not seeing one on www.unri.org/cmstesting/ or on some of the sub pages that I've checked.

Looking forward to helping!

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Dbloniarz,

I just looked at your site through administration panel and compared to firebug.

Looks like the styling you are trying to create through your JCE editor is being overridden by your styling in your personal.css file.

Go to this code within that file:
tr, td {
    border: 1px solid #DDDDDD;
}

And just delete that border line, or make it 0px, whatever. :P This might affect other tables that are inheriting this style.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
Warm Regards,

Tessa Mero

Tessa, et al: I made the change as per Tessa's suggestion. No luck. Cleared browser caches, just to make sure I was looking at revised version. Any further ideas? I am so discouraged, since my boss is getting mad at me for 'wasting time', trying to fix something that "shouldn't be an issue." I am just trying to learn Joomla, since I know that it will be the best solution to our project. Thanks.

Good morning!

Please remove that CSS code I mentioned and I'll make it a priority this morning to see what code is overriding this change.

Hi Dbloniarz,

I am looking at your code and you still have border defined on personal.css
tr, td {
    border: 1px solid #DDDDDD;
}

Just copied pasted straight out of your file from firebug.

If you could email me with FTP credentials I'd like to check your code to see what is going on. :P

Please include what type of framework you are using, such as Gantry, or Joomlart, etc. Thanks!

Using the JCE Editor, would the issue addressed in this post (Table problem: _mce_new="1" added to code) have anything to do with the table borders --

_mce_new="1" has nothing to do with borders. I have already tested that while I was in your editor yesterday. :-)

Checking your code now.

Okay just finished viewing your code from FTP.

You still haven't removed the tr/td borders.
tr, td {
   border:solid 1px #ddd;
}

Line 1252 to 1255 , just comment it out so you can style it later.

You might have removed the wrong code previously.

I updated the changes and it is verified working on your site, but then I changed it back. =]

Yeaah! It worked. I commented out those lines, as you showed me. Thank you very much. I was just wondering why those lines were commented /* for opera */ and why that has anything to do with other browsers. Maybe I am lost, but trying to follow along. Thanks.

You are welcome Dbloniarz,

For opera table border issues, refer to this article:
archive.webstandards.org/css/opera/#border

Below this paragraph has a lot of reference links to read about opera compatibility with tables:

Opera also handles background and borders on inline elements incorrectly. It considers the inline element to include the line-height, and thus padding and borders of inline elements invade the inter-line spacing. This is incorrect. This problem is visible on the links in this page, where the background has extra padding above and below the link.

Tessa Mero

Its me again, with another question related to Table Borders

Can someone take a look at

www.unri.org/cmstesting/index.php?option...t&view=article&id=79

and let me know what css stylesheet I would need to edit, in order to remove the table and cell borders. I can do it, in the html, but I have a series of pages like this, and was wondering if it was possible to just change a stylesheet.

I tried FireBug, but still a bit lost.

Thanks.

When you use Firfox, you'll see that there is no style sheet associated with the table. See the screen shot.

Usually this indicates that it is hard coded into the article itself. Check your table properties in JCE. Looks like the border is defined for the table and the cell so check the properties on the table, row and cell and see that they are blank.

Cheers,
Ed
