Here is some more info about it:

- Our website is www.bakercity.com (Joomla 1.5.23)
- Until few days ago it was “Home – City of Baker City”, but I wanted to change it to “City of Baker City – Home”
- Since I couldn’t find any plugin that was managing the page title, I installed a new extension called Title Manager
- This extension allowed me to place the name of the website before the page title, however it repeats the website name at the end… “City of Baker City – Home – City of Baker City”

I have spent a lot of time trying to figure it out why it is repeating and I cannot find it anywhere. :(

Any thoughts?
Thanks, Val

Hi Vhysong, welcome to OSTraining and glad to have you part of our community! :-)

Well first you don't need to use the plugin to change your Site name.

You can go to Global Configurations > Site Name, and that should change it to whatever you'd like. :-)
Warm Regards,

Hi Tessa,

Thanks! I’m excited to be part of this community too!

I don’t think I explained the issue very well… sorry about that…

The website name under Global Configuration is correct : “City of Baker City”

The problem is that the website name repeats itself: “City of Baker City (website name) – Home (page name) - City of Baker City (website name)”

If I delete the plugin it will be back to its original format “Home (page name) – City of Baker City (website name)”, but what I want is “City of Baker City (website name) – Home (page name)”

How do I fix that?

Thanks, Val
P.S. I attached copies of my screen...

Hi Vhysong,

Is it just your home page you are wanting to change? Or will you be changing every article? If so, here is a great website page title customization plugin for J!1.5:
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/site-ma...itle-management/4219

If you are looking for a solution without this plugin, a professional here with great experience with J!1.5 will be able to help you. :-)
Warm Regards,

Hi Tessa,

I installed the suggested plugin, but it doesn’t solve the issue. :(
The name of the articles are fine… all I want to do is to change the order of the name that is printed on the tab of the browser….

I also just disable the title manager plugin that I had previously installed, so we can start from the beginning :)

Today our website “tab” shows (article title) – (site name)
I want the opposite (site name) – (article title)

I am attaching another file to better explain the issue…
I think I’m not using the proper wording to describe what I want to do, and I might seem confusing :( sorry...

Hi
If you go to your home page menu then under parameters on the right hand side of the page have a look under page title. You should be able to change the order of the words there.
Also you should update your version of joomla.

Hi Mark,

I was not able to find the option to change the order of the words... :(
I copied/paste some all the parameters on the right hand side of the main menu - home... please see attached.

About updating joomla, it is something we are considering... I have to learn how to do that...

Thanks a lot, Val

Hi
Under Parameters System. You should see Page Title for your text.Leave Show page title to No.
I can give you details later of upgrading the site - on phone at the moment!

Hi vhysong,

I just looked at your site and what I see is Home - City of Baker City.

Are you still using the plugin?
What plugin are you using?
Have you contacted the plugin author to see if they have a fix for the double name problem?

I see what you want to do, I'm just trying to figure out where you are in the process.

Thanks,
Ed

Hi Mark,

I’m not trying to make you mad :(
But the parameter "Show Page Title" was already marked "no"

Here is what I have under Parameters (System):

Page Title: Home
Show Page Title: No
Page Class Suffix: <blank>
Menu Image: <none selected>
SSL Enabled: Ignore

Any thoughts?

Thanks for offering help with updating Joomla…
I will let you know when I am ready :)

Hi
Where it says "Home" type in "City of Baker City – Home" without the quotes.
Try this tutorial for upgrading.

Edit I did not see Ed's reply above. This (I hope) should work without a plugin.
You will probably need to clear cache and refresh your browser to see the results. Also the word "Home" does not improve your SEO, you might want to add another descriptive word instead.

I hope I didn't sound mad in my last post. I was just trying to find out if you are still using the plugin. I just need to know if we're dealing with native joomla or there is a plugin that is also influencing the result.
- Since I couldn’t find any plugin that was managing the page title, I installed a new extension called Title Manager
- This extension allowed me to place the name of the website before the page title, however it repeats the website name at the end… “City of Baker City – Home – City of Baker City”

I saw your settings in the screen shots, you sent, and with Show Page Title set to No you shouldn't be seeing the word Home at all. I am wondering if there is a conflict with the plugin.

I apologize if any of our responses sounded discourteous. We are here to help and we'll do all we can. Please feel free to ask us anything. We will always respect you and treat your questions seriously.

One thing you need to do is upgrade your site to the latest 1.5 version, you don't have to go all the way to 2.5, but the version you are using is not secure.

Install admin tools and upgrade to the latest security version following this tutorial. This may actually fix your problem as well.
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/how-to-up...min-tools-extension/

Update your site and let's take another look after the upgrade and see what we need to do.

Hi Ed and Mark,

You are all very nice, and I never thought you sounded discourteous or anything like that at all…
I’m very impressed with the fast responses, professionalism, and the interest you all have in helping me out… :)

I worked on Mark’s suggestions and here is what I got (also attached):
“City of Baker City – Home – City of Baker City”
I also deleted the name under Page title and then it showed “City of Baker City – City of Baker City”, crazy uh?

Ed, our website was developed by Network Solutions and they did not have a plugin installed to manage the title.
So, I thought if I installed a plugin it would solve the problem. It didn’t work either. It always repeats the site name at the end, no matter what parameter I use.
I also contacted the plugin author, but he didn’t respond either. For now, I have disable the plugin.

Do you guys think that having the "site name" after the page title was “hardcoded” somewhere else?

Maybe I should forget this issue for a moment and focus on upgrating the Joomla version...

Thanks a lot, Val

This is a fairly minor issue compared to site security. I would get the site secured first and latest update installed. This problem could be caused by a bug that was fixed in later versions of Joomla, so updating it might just eliminate the problem.

We might not need to do anything to fix it. If the upgrade doesn't fix it, it will be easier to troubleshoot because we will know it's not a Joomla bug that needs fixing.

What you want to do can be done by changing some code in one of the core template files. Not sure which one off the top of my head, I will have to look at them to be sure.

While I'm doing that, get the security upgrade going. We'll help you figure this out and show you how to make the changes.

This could also be caused by the template they used. You can try switching to one of the default templates temporarily and see if the problem goes away.

I want to let you know that I followed the instructions to update my Joomla version. Now it is 1.5.26. yeah! It was very nice of you both to point out the security issues my website was exposed to.

Oh well, back to the issue of the website title. I tried to changed everything like you all suggested, but no luck. :(

Thanks, Val

Okay, the site title can be set by your template. So you want to look in your template's index.php folder for a line that gets the title and sitename.

Add a static text in the <title>

A common requirement is to customise the way in which the page title is displayed, For example, including the site name as part of the page title. The code on this page will allow you to change the global page title across the entire site. You may customise it to your own liking within your own template files. The code can be placed anywhere in your template index.php, although most people tend to insert it near the top or within the <head> element.
To get the current page title:
<?php
$title = $this->getTitle();
?>
Similarly, you use setTitle to set a new page title. For example, to append the site name to the regular page title, you can use code like this:
<?php
$app = JFactory::getApplication();
$this->setTitle( $title . ' - ' . $app->getCfg( 'sitename' ) );
?>
Combining these two pieces of code together, you can do this:
<?php
$app = JFactory::getApplication();
$this->setTitle( $this->getTitle() . ' - ' . $app->getCfg( 'sitename' ) );
?>
Here's a more complete example of what a template would look like with this code embedded in it:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<?php
$app = JFactory::getApplication();
$this->setTitle( $this->getTitle() . ' - ' . $app->getCfg( 'sitename' ) );
?>
<jdoc:include type="head" />

See if there is something similar in your index.php file and put getTitle and sitename in the positions you want. Also make sure that sitename isn't repeated.

These are Joomla functions. If they are inserted correctly, but not working the core of your joomla installation may be corrupted.

Let me know if you this corrects the problem.

Thanks a lot, Ed! I will let you know the results :)

For now, I have a major problem... I spoke to soon... updating joomla version 1.5.23 to 1.5.26 caused some problems on the website and I'm also unable to get into the article manager. I will start a new post to address those issues.

Thanks for all your support.
