Hallo,

I'm trying to do something quite complicated. I run a therapy rooms with therapists with various specialities. I'm trying to create a page with equal sized blocks each containing a photo and therapists details.

I'm using a template created by Artisteer 3 with Joomla 2.5.6.

I have some html which creates the required rectangular blocks with borders on a regular web page but when I enter that as a Joomla article the box disappears and the article occupies the whole available width. That's even when I've doctored (edited) the template css file to contain the extra needed definitions for the div that the box is in.

When I've got the layout fixed I want to use the page with FJ Related to display the appropriate therapists for keywords entered by the visitor.

Help! - I know this is a very complicated query, but where should I start?

Cheers, topgreyed

Hi
Would setting the content out in a table work? This would be a simple solution.

Also if your editor is stripping out code have a look at this.

Hi Mark,

Unfortunately idea of creating tables inside articles will work only if I make separate articles for each combination of therapists people might want to view (counsellor, psychotherapist, hynotherapist, massage, chiropractor etc.) Since people often cover more that one category that would make maintenance a bit of a nightmare as I'd then have to trace and change all categories they appeared in.

So what I want to do is to have the therapist own individual articles about themselves which they can edit. And then display all the therapists that meet the criteria searched for in a category blog layout on one page

And my problem isn't the article editor stripping out code - it all seems to be retained (as seen by Firebug).

What I've done is to edit the template CSS code to insert a div category called 'thrpstblock' and state the height, width, margin etc. I've tried this on a normal HTML page this creates a nice block with the text and image displayed inside it. But maybe this gets over-ridden by the some CSS code inside the template? The div appears in Firebug correctly identified but the height, width etc is not there, just the font properties.

Any ideas?

Terry

Hi
Thanks for the feedback - I have a better understanding now.
I think that the method would depend on the number of therapists and if they can belong to more than one category.
You can achieve a page with "equal size blocks" in a category view using K2. You can pull just the image from individual K2 articles, the image plus Title (ie name) or the image title and a selected amount of text. Have a look at these tutorials to see if it would work for you. www.ostraining.com/courses/class/joomla-25/k2/view/
If a fairly sophisticated search method is required (ie therapists can appear in several groups) then a directory extension such as sobipro would be worth thinking about. This is a link to a their demo site for members (I am thinking therapists) demo.sobi.pro/members

Many thanks Mark,

OK, I'm back on the case now after a long distraction!

I've decided to just have fixed articles for each modality offered by the therapist, so the K2 solution is fine. I've installed K2 but I just can't see how to implement the "equal sized blocks" for each article using it.

Are there any more pointers for this? I've viewed the whole tutorial but that part must somehow have gone past without me noticing.

All the best, Terry

Hi Terry,

Can we get a link to your HTML page and your Joomla page that you were having an issue with?

As to K2, I think Mark was suggesting that you put each therapist in a separate k2 item within the same category and then upload an image for each therapist within the k2 item. Then you can create a menu item of type k2 category blog.

Let us know if you have any questions. Also, please let us know which specific step you're stuck on.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi
Nick has described exactly what I was thinking.
In the Category you can set out the "layout grid". Set the number of columns that you want say 4 and the "leading count" to the number of therapists. Within K2 you set the size of images within the parameters before uploading the images so you need to work out the image size that you need first! In the layout grid you select the image size from "small" " medium" etc. So you small image might need to be 180px wide for 4 columns or 320px wide for 3 columns (just examples depends on your template width).
You can display just the image - a title (name) and the image or title, image and into text.
The K2 tutorials show how to do this www.ostraining.com/courses/class/joomla-25/k2/view/
By careful selection of the number of columns they should all turn out the same length. The images will all be the same size and the intro text the same length the only variable is the length of the name!

Mark
