TOPIC: Home Page Not Showing

Home Page Not Showing 1 year 1 week ago #45545

I'm using a template with K2. Whichever page I set as the home page does not show up. All the other pages do. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Kristin,

Can you tell me how you are setting the home page? I'm not sure what you mean by that. Are you saying that the article you want doesn't appear on the home page, or that there is no homepage at all, it's completely blank?

Some details and a link to the site would help narrow this down.

Let us know a bit more.
Ed

Hi Ed - This is related to question you're helping me with, so I'm copying & pasting my response from the other post over to this one. Thanks so much:

My site is blacksheepalehouse.com. I just made it live but with only 3 menu items active. One is called "Website Coming Soon," and should show the bar's logo on a white background. This will be a splash page. The one called "Home" is not technically the home page; that should show the bar's logo on a black background, plus some text.

A live demo of the template is here:
www.templatemonster.com/demo/38756.html

I set the home page by simply clicking the star next to the desired menu item. Whichever of these three menu items I choose as the actual home page (blacksheepalehouse.com), that page disappears. Or, I should say, the article disappears; the menu and logo still appear.

Thanks for any insights into this; much appreciated.

Hi Kristin,

When you set the home page by clicking the star, check to make sure that the alias on that page and the alias on the default home page are not he same. If they are both "home" you'll have a problem and need to change the alias. Each alias has to be unique.

Looking at what you're building, there shouldn't be any reason for you to designate another page as the home page. The default home page should be all you need.

There's some confusion for me over what we're calling a page. With a CMS, you create the structure and then you tell the content where to show up. The page is created on demand.

Are you following our CASH workflow? Have you created all your categories first?

I'm trying to figure out if this is something we can fix by just fixing the menu or a problem with the template itself. If you want me to take a look at the menu and your template parameters, send some login credentials to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Post to the form that you did that if you do. Then I will be sure to check my email for it.

Hi Ed - Yes, I've set up categories, articles, and menu items for all pages. By "page" I just mean the web page as it appears on the live site.

The aliases are different, so the problem's not coming from there.

As for having a home page that's not technically the domain name: I need something similar to a splash page, that shows up when people go to blacksheepalehouse.com, without a logo or menu, and then I need people to be able to click on a large image on that page and arrive at the "real" home page. There may be a more sophisticated way to do this. I don't think that's the root of this particular problem, though, because, as I mentioned, regardless of which menu item I designate for blacksheepalehouse.com, the content associated with that menu item does not show up.

Would love to take you up on your offer to look over the site; I'm sending you the login credentials now.

Thanks so much!

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the follow-up! It turned out the database was corrupted and needed to be recreated. I've done that, and have also used a different, simpler template, and my site is working OK now. (Thank you, Ed.)
