Help with joomla Admin area corruption 1 year 3 weeks ago #44646

Hi, I'm a complete newby to joomla!, but I've got my first website almost up when I encountered the following error... when I log in to the back end of my website, I get a page that looks like this: screencast.com/t/fYFQY2oF

This error just occurred yesterday. Everything is working, if I click on any one of the links, I can navigate around that way... but the main page or "control panel" appears this way.

I looked at the index.php file under the administrator folder... and it hasn't been changed in some time.

ANY HELP would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks,
Jeff.

Hi and welcome, Jeff!

What Joomla version are you using? Did you try clearing your cookies and cache of the browser?

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,
Thanks for the quick response.
1. Using Joomla 1.7 see the following: screencast.com/t/1k0gjwEL5 and screencast.com/t/JYY4Wbiis
2. See both screencasts above to see that other areas of the admin side ARE working, it is just the control panel page.
3. Yes, i restarted my computer, cleared browser cache, cookies, search history, I've done everything I can think of.

Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Jeff.

Hi Jeff,

What is your administrator template set to?

Have you checked the database to see what is going on in there?
Warm Regards,

Tessa Mero

Hi Jeff,

You need to update to Joomla 2.5.4 ASAP. Your current version is out of date and there have been several major security issues since 1.7 as well as hundreds of bug fixes. Here's how to update:
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/how-to-update-joomla-17-to-25/

Hopefully the update will fix your issue. If not, go to Extensions (top menu) >> Extension Manager (sub menu) >> Database tab >> Fix (button).

If that still doesn't fix it, then reinstall your Joomla core version using the following tutorial (same thing applies for 2.5):
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/how-to-up...min-tools-extension/

Let me know if you have any questions.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,
Thanks for all the help. It took me a few days to get back to this issue. I've successfully updated to Joomla 2.5.4. The problem persists.

I went to the database tab and clicked "fix." The problem persists.

When I went to the admin tools to attempt to "re-install" the core as you instructed... and this is what I got: screencast.com/t/GFbmTdR5gR

Any ideas on how to do this manually... I follow instructions well.

Thanks, Jeff.
