using joomla 2.5
In the English version of my WAMP local site, I have configured the front page to have one lead article, followed by 4 introductory articles in two columns. On the English site, it is that way. But on the second language site (Thai / Falang) it stays as before -- 1 lead and 3 introductory side-by-side.

Can you tell me what I am missing??

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

This is hard to determine with the little information provided (for me at least). Do you think you can provide a screenshot of the menu manager in the other language site as well? And a screenshot of what it looks like on the front end?

Also, the site that isn't showing up correctly, did you try clearing all Joomla/browser cache? Did you test on different browsers that this is showing differently?
Warm Regards,

Tessa Mero

Thanks. yes my info was not very clear or complete.
I attach two files. This is a single site still on WAMP. The basic site is in English. I used Falang to add Thai.

The main menu>Home>settings for front page are set to 1 intro, 4 leading, 2 columns. In the English home page, you can see that the 4 articles I created and assigned to featured page all end up thee exactly as they should.

But when I click on the Thai Language Icon, the home page layout changes. Three of the same articles are still there, but now in one row (or column),and the fourth one is put onto page 2.

Does that make it any clearer? Sorry i cannot put it up on a live server yet; still too too much to do!

Thanks so much.
Paul

But you can see the current live site -- it is made in Joomla 1.5, at www.sjthailand.org

You can see the front page there --- it works in both English & Thai. It is set only once in the homepage at 1 leading, 4 intro, 2 columns.

But I cannot seem to get that to work now in Joomla 2.5

Hi Paul, did you deactivate/clear cache after making these changes? This is an interesting one. :-) But we will do our best to find what the issue is. :-)

Yes, cleared cache inside Joomla 2.5, and also Firefox.
Waiting for inspiration from you!

a P.S.
I updated the joomla to 2.5.6; and the falang to 1.1.5
All my translations work ok; except for the formatting for the front page (as I described above).

Hi Paul,

The second language page should have it's own menu item and it's own settings. Are the settings on both menu items the same? You only showed the screen shot for one of them.

Hopefully this is simple.

Cheers,
Ed

Perfect answer! When I made the translation for the main menu/home, i didn't see that there were options at the bottom of that new page!

Thanks. Really helpful.

this is a follow-up to the topic.

Both languages now have the same otions and apear ok; BUT I cannot seem to get the 4 articles to arrange in the way I want. If I go to Featured Articles, and rearrange the numbers-ordering of the articles and then save them, they donot move. Any good insights for me to follow up?
Thanks
paul

You mean you are trying to reorder the which article is first and which is second, etc?

There are a couple of places where you can change the order of the articles. If you go to Content > Article Manager and click the options icon, you'll see you can choose article order there. That sets the global options.

But you can also find it under the individual menu item under the article options. The list in the menu item will override the global options. Experiment with different settings there and see if you get what you want.

Also either turn of cache in your Global Configuration, or be sure to clear the cache before you view the changes. You might be looking at a cached copy.

Let us know if that is what was needed.

Cheers,
Ed

Thanks again.

I followed all the advice. No caching. Firefox cleared. Global Options have 1-4-2-4 and "across (attached).

Article has only global options, no changes.

Featured articles -- i show you the three experimentals in attachment. The top one is ok. But I want Xavier Hall to be at left, and Seven Fountains to be at right. This does not happen, but i think I have the order properly in the featured articles....?

Still on the WAMP.
Many thanks
Paul

Have you chosen Article Manager Order in the box indicated on the attached screenshot?

That isn't included in your picture and that is what decides the order of the articles on the page.

But you can also find it under the individual menu item under the article options.

Go to Menus > Main Menu > Click the menu item name
Choose the Blog Layout Options.

sorry to bother again about this same topic!
I attach 3f files -- one is from the Main Menu>Home>and then Integration.
The second attachment is from Contents>article manager>options.
It seems that I have set them as you suggested; but still the ordering does not follow what I would like when I try to do it in the Featured Articles ordering....(attachment 3).
Maybe you can put some light in my darkness?

The Featured Articles -- I would like to be in this way if possible (but if not, I can live with it!)

[top left] Xavier Hall [top right] Seven Fountains

[bottom left] Loyola House [bottom right] Our Lady of Lourdes

Thanks again

Hi Paul,

You just needed to change the order numbers in the article manager. I think this does it for you. Check the screenshots.

I think that does what you want.

Ed

Thanks. Perfect answer (again).
But this means that the Featured Articles menu does not do the trick, is that right???

Hi Paul,

Actually it was working. You had the article numbering chosen as the order preference and they appeared in the order based on their numbers. I turned the numbers around and it worked. Ordering by number means the number of the article in article manager.

It's very confusing. I always have to experiment to get right myself. It's easy to forget which one takes precedence.

Cheers,
ed
