I am using Joomla 2.5 with mx_joofree7 template. I created a drop down menu and the menu items don't show on the home page where a flash header is right below the menu. They do show on the other pages where that flash header is not present. I found an article that showed how to add code <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> and wmode="transparent" in the embed tag but the flash code doesn't have an embed tag and <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> was already in the code. I went ahead and added <embed wmode="transparent"></embed> before the </object> tag but that still didn't help. Any help to get my menu items showing would be greatly appreciated.

Hi jparks,

Welcome to the forum. This is a good question.

The solution may be in a different area however. I don't know how much you know about Joomla and css, so if anything I say is not clear or you already tried it just let me know.

First thing to check is that you have the menu levels set to show. Look in the Module manager and find the menu module and on the parameter at the right side of the page make sure you have it set to show all the levels.

Second I would check the css and see what the z-index is on the menu module and the header. Make sure the menu is in "front" of the header. Here's a reference on the z-index property www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_pos_z-index.asp

Also do you know how to use Firebug to troubleshoot display problems? Here are a couple of tutorials on using Firebug.

Check these out and let us know if it relates to the problem. If you can give us a link to the page we might be able to look at it and give you more specific help.

Nice to meet you. Just let us know what you need.

Cheers,
Ed

Hi Ed

I am a Joomla newb and the first thing you suggested was the culprit. It's working great now.

Cheers

Hi Jeff,

So glad it was something simple! Glad that worked out.

Lots of newbie problems are just procedures you haven't discovered yet, but that doesn't mean the answers are easy to find. Just ask us when you get stuck.

Cheers,
Ed
