I have my web site with a domain name. But when type in another domain name (sakthischools.org) pointing to another category in the same web site, then all the pages appear under that domain name. I want to show the domain names restricted to that cateogry only and should automatically change when going to the original site. Example going to this this link and then clicking the uni5 site there, I want ot read therafter uni5.
how do I fix this problem.

Hi Pradheep,

Are these separate websites with their own databases in their own directories?

Hi Pradheep,

There are several ways to do what I think you want to do.

1.You can create rewrite rules in your .htaccess file.

2. You can use your cpanel to create subdomains and parked domains.

3. You can use redirection supplied by your domain name registrar to forward a domain name to another url.

Of these the easiest to do and to control is to learn to set up subdomains, parked domains and redirects on your cpanel.

Does your hosting company allow you to create subdomains and parked domains?

Thanks Ed,
yes subdomains are allowed. But I dont know about parked domains. So will subdomains solve this problem. So each subdomain point to a category and that an url points to the sub domain right? I will try and let you know how that works. Thanks a lot.

Actually on my cpanel they have a command for add-on domains. Do you have add-on domains? If I have separate domain names, I just click add-on domains and it creates a folder for the domain. I put the site in there and all the sites function indpendently and have their own domain names.

Ask your host if you have a similar feature. I included a screeenshot of what my cpanel section for handling domains looks like.

Also a picture of the domains I have added on my account. You can see there are four domains each with their own domain name, all on the same hosting account.

May be I did not understand completely. I made a subdomain amma.uni5.co . Then made a category pointing to it. Now when I click amma.uni5.co, it goes to that category. but from there when I click home instead of going to uni5.co page the url still reads amma.uni5.co or to any page. My question is how to read the original url after somebody clicks the subdomain and visits other pages.

Hi Pradheep,

No, I haven't looked it. Sorry about that. I can take a look now. Be sure to let me know on the forum next time, as I mentioned, so that I can check my emails (I get a lot per day, some of which go to junk mail or are filtered).

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Pradheep,

Edit your configuration.php's var live_site variable and set it to "uni5.co/"

Hopefully that will work for you.

Kind regards,
Nick
