Hi there,

I'm thinking of creating a simple login page to direct users to a registered area.
Is it possible to create a customised public home page, with only an image and login, similar in function to the offline page?

Also, can a Joomla site be run in offline mode?
For example, if registered users are given permission to access offline login, would this be a viable proposition, or just mad?

Many thanks
GWS

Hi GWS,

You are able to do this with the built in Joomla ACL (J!1.7+).

Check out these tutorials:
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/the-ultim...joomla-acl-tutorial/
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/acl-manag...xtension-for-joomla/

Also, why would you want registered users to access your offline site? Can we get an understanding to this? It would help to provide a better answer. :P

Hi Tessa

OK...that did',t come out the way I intended. It was only an enquiry into the limitations of the offline mode.

What I'm really wanting to do is that when anyone arrives at the site, they meet a customised login page (with only a background colour, logo image and login fields), which when the user logs in, redirects them to the default homepage (showing the default template). Is this possible?

Thanks Tessa

Hi GWS,

I understand what you are asking. This really depends on the login module you are using. You can set your "front page" and whatever you'd like viewed by the public to be set to "public", and for your login module, you are able to edit the "login" redirection to be your main page, as well as all your other pages being viewed by registered users only.

Is this what you are asking?=]

Hi Tessa

I'm using the login module that comes with Joomla at present. Can you recommend a better one?

I think I follow
You can set your "front page" and whatever you'd like viewed by the public to be set to "public", and for your login module, you are able to edit the "login" redirection to be your main page, as well as all your other pages being viewed by registered users only.

But how do I customise the page with the login module, as I don't want to show the default template (that will be seen once they login)?

I just want the login page to show an image, some text and a login box in the centre of a page?

Hope that is clear.

Thanks for your help
GWA

Hi Tessa

Had an idea.

+ To create a public menu item with User Login type and make it the 'home' Menu item.
+ Make all the other menu items Registered.
+ Assign the Atomic template to the public login page
+ Assign the default template to all the other registered menu items.
+ Then, customise the already simple Atomic Template, so that login page looks the way I want.

Will let you know if it works.
Is this what you suggested above?

regards
Trevor

Hi Trevor,

Looks like you understand what I was explaining. Yay. :-)

Go ahead and try this and let me know how it works. If something doesn't look right, double check the access levels to everything. :-D

Good luck!

Hi Tessa

Have used firebug to change locate the most of the parameters of the Atomic login page, but having difficulty locating the the css that would allow me to change the layout of the login form.

At present, the login form is floated left and shows:

user name
password
login
forgot password?
forgot username?

I would like the login form aligned to centre of page and arranged:

user name | password |login
forgot password? | forgot username

Many thanks
GWS

You can find your CSS file in this location:

templates/atomic/css/blueprint/screen.css

With this file you can arrange your "fieldset" login form.

Have you taken our CSS class or do you have a hand on this? :-)
