Copy & Paste with Joomla & Falang Multi Language modules 1 year 3 weeks ago #47030

Thanks Ed for your Blog post on FaLang. In the post you offered the shortcut of using Google and cutting and pasting the translation:

FROM OST BLOG: This can be a laborious process. You essentially have to recreate almost the entire site in another language. But if you need multiple languages, this solution is the best for Joomla 2.5 so far.
Tip: A shortcut tip is to use something like Google Translate to do a quick translation of the article and paste it into the text window. This won't be adequate for most purposes, but it may be easier to edit the stilted language of the automatic translation than starting from scratch.

I have two questions:
1. Are the language Tabs that i now see on my Product and Category Add/Edit pages [not mentioned in your blog tutorial] part of FaLang, or are they only related to the Joomla language component?
2. It IS possible to do translations directly on these language tabs on the Product and Category Add/Edit pages, BUT you must enter text in the text editor box . I recall during my Joomla training with Steve in Atlanta that he said never to cut and paste into the text editor as you might risk messing up the code. Am I correct to be concerned about doing this or is there no risk of introducing problems in the text editor if we cut and paste from Google? Just want clarification on this to know that it is ok to do it on the FaLang translate page but not in the JCE text editor.

Regards
Scott

HI Scott,

The lanaguage tabs come from Falang.

Cut and paste can be tricky if you do it in WYSYWIG mode. If you are pasting plain text it's not a problem. You can paste in WYSYWIG mode and if you suspect something strange, toggle the editor and change things.

What I usually do is paste it into an editor where I can check the code before I commit it Joomla.

You can also set your JCE editor to filter out html while you are doing the copy and paste and everything will be stripped out when you save. Steve is correct, it can be troublesome if you paste full code directly into an editing window.

Cheers,
Ed

Thanks Ed

How can I set JCE to filter out any html? I am very inexperienced at editors, html, css, code, etc.

Hi Scott,

These tutorials might help.

www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/jce/

Also read this about filters www.joomlacontenteditor.net/support/faq/...ml-removed-on-saving

And in the Components > JCE > Global Configuration you can set clean up html to YES.

Let us know if that helps.
