Converting a Heavily Javascripted Dreamweaver site to Joomla 2.5 1 year 3 weeks ago #44715

Greetings,
I may be asked to convert this site:
www.colabatsecondstreet.com
to a joomla site.

I have done a lot of custom joomla 1.5 template design, and no custom Joomla 2.5 template design.

Javascript is used to control the stretching of the background images.

I fully intend to study your course on template design: www.ostraining.com/blog/news/joomla-25-template-design-class/

But first, I thought I would ask you if you think I'll run into problems with the javascript in this site. I have a attached a screenshot of the js files used in the site.

Thanks,
Hope

Hi Hope,

Tough to tell. I think that if they are working now, they'll work with a Joomla template as long as it's fairly simple.

You might run into problems with something like a RocketTheme template that makes heavy use of java scripts. Huge potential for conflicts. The fewer you have the better they will work.

Try creating a test site with these scripts and our Bolt Template. That's as simple as you can get. Add extensions one at a time and see if you one causes a failure. At least that's how I would approach it.

Let us know if you get the job and maybe we can help with specific problems.

Cheers,
Ed

Thank you Ed.

I will definitely be designing my own template from scratch. Maybe this will be helpful, given your points about potential conflicts with commercial templates.

And yes, I will be taking advantage of your support as I build the site if needed.

thanks so much,
Hope
