I am starting to build a site with a template from joomla24 called bicolor. The site is www.lakeviewconsultant.com. I would like to change the words in the header from "lakeviewconsultant.com" to " Lakeview Business Consultant" I looked around in the code and, well, not really knowing much code, I could not figure it out. Steve or anyone, can you offer any help? Thanks,
Dave.

Hi Dave

This might be simpler than you realise.

Can you check Site >> Global Configuration to see if you have "lakeviewconsultant.com" inserted into "Site Name"?

If so, change it there.

Oh Steve, That was easy. Thanks, It took about three seconds to change it. In fact it's taking me longer to type this reply. Steve, you are doing a great job and I am learning lots on this OStraining site. Tomorrow I attend my first monthly joomla luncheon in Milwaukee. Getting excited about it.
Thanks again,
Dave

You're more than welcome Dave!

I'll warn you it's a slippery slope down into Joomla ... :) I started learning on a similar site like this a few years back when I was teacher full-time.

Say hello to Vic and Gabe for me if you see them.

This was helpful to me too, thank you. Additional question to this, though. I wanted to completely take the site name out of the header, because I've designed my own header to use. So, I just deleted the name (leaving it blank) out of the site name in the global configurations. But that means, it deletes it everywhere. Not that it really matters because it's just back-end stuff. BUT, if I wanted to actually have the site listed in global configurations, is there a typical place in the templates where I can completely delete it out of the header?
Blessings,
~Anita

Hi Heart0

That really depends on your template. Do you have a link to your site?

However, I wouldn't recommend removing the site name from Global Configuration unless you want new users to get a welcome email saying 'Thank You For Registering at ___________ "

A related question to that one...where do I customize the system emails (thanks for registering, you do not have access, etc).

Hi and welcome Jenshenk

You need to access Joomla files unfortunately:

/language/en-GB/

For the system emails go to the file called en-GB.com_user.ini and look for this code:
SEND_MSG=Hello %s,\n\nThank you for registering at %s.\n\nYou may now log in to %s using the username and password you registered with.

Thanks! How does that answer relate to other extensions? For example, I'm using 'ijoomla magazine' and 'jCal pro' and both definitely need their messages customized. Are there .ini files for each extension?

Hi jenshenk

Yes - that's right (at least for any extension worth using)

The reason for separating the lines of language into a separate file is that it makes things much easier to translate. Rather than digging through each file, all the text is in one central place.

All of the language will be in

/language/en-GB/
or more rarely:
/administrator/language/en-GB/
