TOPIC: Can't Access User Manager on live 1.5 site

Can't Access User Manager on live 1.5 site 11 months 3 weeks ago #47194

Hi all

I wanted to check out my users that I had set up on my live site and was suprised to get a white screen with this error:

Fatal error: Class 'JModelList' not found in /home/xxxxxx/public_html/administrator/components/com_users/models/users.php on line 22

Any suggestions on severity of this problem and how to fix it?

Thanks

Scott

Hi Scott,

Are you running Joomla 1.5 or Joomla 2.5? Is this a site migrated from 1.5 to 2.5?

The class JModelList is not used in Joomla 1.5 but it is defined in 2.5. This would most likely indicate you have a missing file in the component's directory.

If you can compare your directory with a "clean" one from a fresh extraction, you may find the file. Or you could rename the com_users directory to old and then upload a new copy.

That will most likely work. If it doesn't let me know.

Can't Access User Manager on live 1.5 site 11 months 3 weeks ago #47303

Hi Ed

My live site is still 1.5 while in my subfolder I have installed 2.5 to develop my new replacement site. I am not exactly sure what you are suggesting. I should upload a new copy of com_users and replace my existing copy? Where can I find com_users files?

Thanks

Scott

EDIT: Dowloaded Joomla 1.5.4 install files, extracted the zip file and found the com_users file folder. Before I upload to my site, is there a problem with both 1.5 live site with 2.5 test site in a subfolder? Are any files shared between joomla installs? will I mess up my 2.5 install by making this fix to the 1.5 joomla? Thanks again.

Hi Scott,

Which site is the error happening on? Your 1.5 or 2.5 site?

Please try reinstalling your Joomla core version using the following tutorial (same thing applies for 2.5):
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/how-to-up...min-tools-extension/

That will reset your core files.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick

I followed tutorial but in my version of admin tools, it only gave me option to update from 1.5.25 to 1.5.26. There was no install or re-install option. I updated but still have error message like before. What do you suggest next?

Regards
Scott

Hi Scott,

After updating, do you have a reinstall option now?

Nick

Hi Scott,

To answer an earlier question. The 2.5 test site is completely independent of the 1.5 site so you don't have any problems there.

You'll know if the reinstall worked if the version number has changed on the admin panel.

All I can think of at this point is to try the reinstall again, but this time choose the reload from the server option.

Use cPanel or phpMyadmin to repair your database tables.

Let me know. I'll check and see if I can find a reference to anyone else having this problem and an alternate solution.

Ok I double checked. 1.5 does not use the file that is causing the problem, so it shouldn't be there at all. deleting it should be ok, you don't have to replace it. I'd do that first and see if it works.

The best fix I found for this was to create a completely new 1.5 installation in another directory and make sure it works. Then attach the data base to it by changing the configuration.php file.

Copy your template directory over to the new new install if you made any modifications. Reinstall any plugins. Move the working site to the main directory and completely remove the old one.

I've looked everywhere and there isn't any other answer for this.

Let us know how it comes out.

Thanks Ed and Nick for all of your diligence on this problem. Not too excited about the solution, however! Given that I am currently working on new 2.5 site in test folder, and that 1.5 site is currently working ok on front end, do you see any risk in leaving all alone until I can go live with my 2.5 site? I would rather spend my time on the 2.5 site now instead of fixing the 1.5 site which I need to replace anyways...

If there are serious risks to leaving the problem for another 30-60 days, then I will need to focus on it, otherwise... bye bye 1.5... hello 2.5!

Thanks again

Scott

[ps: I did try re-install again and did select reload from server second time, but problem still there]

Hi Scott,

If the front end ain't broke, don't fix it :)

If you don't need the access, I would concentrate on the 2.5 site. I've taken that route myself, and sometimes it's just easier. You'll have the new site done twice as fast if aren't wasting time on the old one.

Another one of my old-man homey sayings that I like to quote - "You can't swim across the lake if you're holding on to the dock." Sometimes you just gotta let go.

Cheers,
Ed
