I have a snapshot which shows white background color in several areas of the page, but i want to control those colors and can't figure out how to do it. See attached.

Use Firefox and Firebug to track down the css that is controlling the background.

Check out these two tutorials (essentially the asme no matter if it's Joomla or Wordpress.
