Any thoughts of adding courses on Social Media or VirtueMart? I think there would be a lot of interest in these subjects.

Yes, on Virtuemart. That's definitely on the radar.

Could you explain more about what you'd like to see on social media?

Social Media would be how to use Facebook or Twitter and others on your site to best promote your business. There are so many sites out there that have the above icons and "Like" icons on them. One that comes to mind is Your text to link here.... If you click on the Facebook icon on that page, you are taken to another page.

That's an interesting one. It's a little bit outside of our core mission, which is explaining Joomla, Drupal and WordPress. But, we hope to grow and add wider topics ...

For now, I'd say that Virtuemart is a slam dunk. Social media might be a little further off.

In that case, we'll have a chat with our team.

With the release of Joomla 3 in September, I'd suspect we can squeeze in one more Joomla extensions class before then. We'll see if we can make it Virtuemart.

Newbie to Joomla. It would be nice if we had a tutorial for a simple eccomerce template, using K2 and virtuemart.

For those of you who would like a Virtuemart class, are there any specific topics you want covered?

What stumbling blocks are you running into? Let me know and I may be able to cover some specific topics to help you out in the short term.

Cheers,
Ed

Regarding virtuemart, I'm interested in a few things.

One, how to add it to a joomla site and make it work properly, of course.

Two, how to customise/to what extent one can customise. E.g., on an old joomla site that was developed for me by someone else, the virtuemart shopping cart had 'products'. I was selling fine art and antiques, and 'products' didn't work for me. The developer said he couldn't change it to 'art' or 'item', because a) that would make a global change across all his websites and b)as soon as there was an update to virtuemart, the customisation would be gone.

Three, you mentioned, Ed (I think it was Ed, sorry if it was another of you) in an answer to someone else, that they could perhaps use virtuemart to make sites within a site. They were going to have a site with several stores, each with different departments and manufacturers and products. I want to do something similar evenutally, so a step-by-step would be great!

Hi Tallong,

could you open a new discussion for each of your questions? It will be a lot easier to answer and follow the threads if they are all separate.

We do have some virtuemart tutorials that will get you started.

www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/custom-field-virtuemart/

In the meantime, check out these tutorials and see if you can find some help there.

Thanks, Ed for the links.

I have been fumbling around redoing a Joomla 1.5/Virtuemart 1.1 site to Joomla 2.5/Virtuemart 2. If there was a class I would definitely take it because the courses make it more efficient and show how to do it right the first time.

Currently I am having trouble with the request item information form i.e styling it and where to set the send to address. Also the relationship between Joomla users, contacts and the VM Store configued user.

I'm also having trouble updating from VM 2.06 to 2.08d both on my Ubuntu/Apache test server and on the webhost site. I think for different reasons but haven't tracked it down yet.
