TOPIC: Am I safe or hackable?

Am I safe or hackable? 1 year 3 weeks ago #44783

Hi,

I thought I asked this already but guess not! I didn't want to go through the hassle of migrating my site to 2.5, so I simply installed and populated a fresh version template on a subdomain with redirect via htaccess to reflect the new path. BUT now I'm nervous about whether it's a security risk? I can still access my old site/administrator easily... and that's a 1.5.

The reason why I didn't want to migrate is because I have several sites shared/wrapped within my public_html.

What do you think? Am I safe, or how can I be safer?? thx..d.

Hi D,

As long as your 1.5 site is running 1.5.26 (and stays up to date) and all the extensions are up-to-date, you should generally be OK. At the very least, your 1.5 site is not any less secure than it was previously.

I would, however, recommend getting rid of any old sites if/when you're no longer using them. This is simply because you might forget to keep them up to date and also because having one extra site is one extra target.

Kind regards,
Nick

Do you think my 1.5 site is better/safer if I take it offline?

Yes. If you don't need to access it. It's safer off line.
