I'm just using the normal joomla login module. And if you type in a wrong username/login it takes you to another page that has the login form...but no error message saying that you typed in the wrong username or password, etc. So, it's actually confusing to the user as to what happened and why they were taken to that page.

Is there a way that I can add a message?

See the two images. The first is the login form... The 2nd is the page it takes me too after I typed in the wrong username/password.
Blessings,
~Anita

Hi Anita,

What Joomla version are you using?

What is your error reporting within your global configuration's server tab set to?

Kind regards,
Nick

I'm using Joomla 2.5.4.

Error Reporting is "simple".

Hi Anita,

Try changing the error reporting settings to different levels to see if you get a different result each time. Report your results and we'll go from there :)

When I change it to maximum - I get this error on many of the pages:

Hi Anita,

OK, change it back to standard or simple then try switching template real quick to test. Looks like it your template might be suppressing the error message.

Nick

Hi Anita,

Switch templates in Template Manager for a few seconds for those pages (or the whole site), then switch back to your regular template.

Does this explanation help?

Actually, you're using k2 :) Check the URL at the top of that page.

When I switched templates, I got the following error message:
Unable to connect to LDAP server

That means that your template's index.php file is likely missing a
<jdoc:include type="message" />

above:
<jdoc:include type="component" />

The <jdoc:include type="message" /> is what generates the error messages.

Also, it looks like your Database is not up to date with your Joomla version. Please make a backup, then go to Extensions >> Extension Manager >> Database tab >> Fix (top right).

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Nick

Hey Nick - okay, I did the above. And now "Unable to connect to LDAP server" appears when I type in the wrong username/password. BUT...the user isn't gonna have a clue what that means. Shouldn't it say, "username and/or password is wrong"?

~Anita

Hi Heart0,

It say "Unable to connect to LDAP server" that mean your website are trying to authenticate with a LDAP server. So I guess that plugin "Authentication - LDAP" is enable. If true just disable it.

Thanh

Hi Thanh! Yes, that worked. I disabled that plugin. Thank you!

Now, it say "Failed to authenticate: Access Denied". I still think it should be more specific. Like "Username and/or password is wrong. Please try again." So, should I just change that in the Language Manager...in the overrides?

Anita

Hi Anita,

Yes, you can change it as a language override.

Nick
