Hi Mvang,

What is the editor you are using?

If you are using JCE editor, you have an option right under your textbox to insert Read Mores.

Is this what you are asking? :-)

Sorry I should of been more clear.
It's similar to an intro text where I only want to show certain amount of character and then below the last paragraph it'll show "read more" once they click on read more it will bring them to the whole article.

see sample below...
02d87b5.netsolhost.com/new/
scroll down to the bottom of the page, once you click on the read more it will bring you to the whole article page.

Hi mvang,

I looked at your site, I assume you want the readmore on the three featured articles at the bottom of the page? Is that correct? or are you going to add an extension like the slider on the sample page?

If those are custom html modules, you'll need to manually insert a readmore link like any other link.

If those are articles, then you use the readmore link button in the editor to create the readmore link when you create the article.

In the sample site you sent us the only readmore links are on the product slider at the bottom of the page. Putting readmore links there is most likely part of the configuration for the module and/or plugin that creates the slider.

If you're going to use an extension, we might be able to help you if we knew what the extension was.

Let us know if that answers the question. It's still not clear to me exactly what you want to do.

Cheers,
Ed

Yes, I am referring to the 3 articles at the bottom of the page.
I will not be using the product slider extension.
I would like to add the read more link in the article see attached.

How does it know when to cut off the text before the read more link is added?

When you create the article, there should be an icon on your toolbar that creates the readmore link. You put the cursor where you want the link and click the icon.

You decide where you want it for each article. It does not do it automatically.

In the screen shot the gray bar shows you where I placed it in that article.

Cheers,
Ed

Aha! It work!
However, when they click on read more how can we make the new page the whole article?
Also, how can I make the button only have the text "read more >>"

Hi Mvang,

Go to 'Article Manager' and select 'Options.

On the articles tab you'll see a radio button for 'Show read more with titles'

Choose 'Hide'

and you should be all set.

It should be going to the whole article and show the teaser as well as the rest of the page. You don't have to do anything special for that.

Hi
As Will says. Article Manager then click "Options" (top right, just below view site).
You also need to set intro text to show.

Hi Ed,

This is a different topic, but from your print screen above.
Do you have an extension I can download to "Insert a Categories" similar to "Insert an Article" in the JCE editor toolbox.

Hi Mvang,

I don't know of one that will insert a category. Do you mean link to a category?

Just create a link using the link icon in JCE as you would for any link. Check all your JCE icons. There should be one there for adding a link. You just have to link to the category page url.

How long has it been since you viewed the Joomla beginner course? If it's been a while, you might want to review it again. Most of these simple procedures are explained there.

Cheers,

Ed
