Switching a site over to J2.5, and one of the default templates will work for an existing site with some tweeking. However, it doesn't seem to have the capability for a dropdown menu in position-1. Can you tell me what I can do to add a drop-down menu?

Thanks

or our "Creating a Mega Menu in Joomla" tutorial a try:

I had installed the menu, put it in positon-1 but it doesn't show up.
I must be missing a step.

Also, how do I change the menu bar to reflect the site name?

Using the Maxi Menu, following your tutorial. It's not displaying correctly. It's displaying to the far right, not underneath it's parent menu item "Shows & Events".

Hi Pat,

Thank you, Pat! OK, now I was able to get in.

Looks like you're still using the regular default menu on your site. It's assigned to the "position-1" module position and is assigned to all pages. The Maxi Menu module on the other hand, although assigned to the "position-1" module position, it is assigned to no pages.

All that's left is that you need to disable the default menu module and assign the maxi-menu module to all pages.

Hope this helps! :)

Kind regards,
Nick

This is the site that I am having problems, the new 2.5 site. Here is the url

192.220.72.203/

As you can see, the drop-down items are not showing up, but they are in the menu and in the module is configured the way you had it.

I'm misssing something for it not to show up.

There could be a problem with the template. If you switch to another one temporarily will it show up?

If the menu items are enabled, and the viewing permissions are public, there's really no reason why they shouldn't show.

To trouble shoot, you'll need to experiment a bit to see if we can find out what is actually causing the problem. It's a process of elimination, so the first thing to eliminate is the settings. If all those check out, then test the template.

1. Click Rebuild at the top of the menu item manger and rebuild the menu.
2. Remove the menu items and put them back and rebuild again if that didn't work.
3. Go to Extenions > Extension Manager and check the Database and the Warnings for messages.
4. Use cpanel or phpmyadmin to fix the data base.
5. Go to your global configuration and turn error messages to maximum and see if you get an error.
6. Turn off all plugins but the core plugins to see if there is a plugin conflict.
7. Switch templates and see if it's working in another template.
8. Use Akeeba admin tools to reinstall Joomla.

These are all the things I would try first, if you've done all this and still not working, let us know.

Ed

Holy smoke, I've got some work to do. I changed up the beez20 template to reflect the colours - green and gold. Do you have any other suggestions for another template that I could easily change those colours to?

In the meantime, I will work on this. So, don't close this as solved until I report back, because I'm not as fast as you.

Thanks

Well, it's been a couple of day since I started to do checks on my site. Did them all, one by one, and nothing seemed to work. Tearing my hair out. Finally, as a last resort, I copied the menu, and voila, that one worked! So, it has been "fixed", but don't know how that happened.

Thanks for the check list, I'll keep that in mind when something goes wrong, before I give up completely. And thanks for the support and help.
