500 Internal Server Error... 11 months 2 weeks ago #50738

Hi WEveryone! I'm back! LOL ok.. Forget those last request to help me get into the Joomla control. I went back and re-did the entire site on my WAMP server. that being said, I had no issues whatsoever logging in from there. (LOL).
Now..Here is what I did do..Upon completing the site in wamp and saving my sql file (crowley.sql). and db prefix as (lvcpm_).

I went into my hosting site and deleted the old filed I had in the subdirectory folder (/Joomla). With the sql file I used a previously db, dumping the old files from there and importing the new ones from my WAMP server. That should work right??

I compressed (zipped) the site from the WAMP server and placed it in the /Joomla folder then went to the "Archive Gateway" in FatCow and uncompressed the zip so the files are all in the /Joomla subdirectory. (With me so far??). I have done this with 3 other sites.. same way... NO problem whatsoever..
Then I went to the Config.php file and changed the db, host and password along with with tmp and logs path from my WAMP to my hosting setup. So I figured everything should work then..BUT Nooooo.. I get the following message..
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, support@fatcow-inc.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

I contacted FatCow via chat since I am hard-of-hearing and thought I would be able to get some answers... Nooooo again.. they had to send a ticket to a tech specialist who in all likelihood will get back (Still waiting on them) to me and say this is a "Joomla!" issue.. Goosh!! Any ideas what I did wrong or can do??

Hi John,

This IS a strange one! You've done everything right. The 500 internal service error does point to the server connection as the problem, but it's a very general error and doesn't give any specifics.

Here's a good article on it pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/500servererror.htm

If you're interested other status codes you might look at this too. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTTP_status_codes

Usually the 500 error, if not just a transient error, is related to permissions. I think you already know how to check those. If you have access to the server error logs you might get a clue. That's hopefully what the server administrator can do for you.

You could try opening a $4 account with Hostgator and see if it works on their servers. Or loading it on another domain that you know is already working.

What's the URL to the site? I'd like to see what i get when I get there.

Ed

500 Internal Server Error... 11 months 2 weeks ago #50752

Hey Hi Ed!
THnaks for reviewing my post!.. Seems that FatCow has resolved the issue, BUT they didn't give me the spefic reason on what was wrong. I left a message asking for feedback as to what caused it so I could be aware of it should it happen again..Whew!!
Glad I finally got this site working.. Oh, and BTW, I am able to login in the Joomla! C-Panel without any problems... I made doubly sure the Joomla!-Authenication plugin was published.

Here was the link to the website I had sooo many problems with:
http://www.crowleyheritagecenter.com

Thanks for all your help. I am going to stick with you guys for help from now on. I can;t even access the Joomla Forum.. Must have gotten the boot (LOL).. I keep getting a 406 error message to that page..

Have a great Fourth of July and look forward to speaking with you and the OS crew should I have anticipate any further Joomnla! issues.

So glad we could help! It feels good when we finally get there!

I hate it when tech support says, "it's not us, it's them" I feel like a ping-pong ball when that happens. Didn't want you to feel like that, but - it was them!

Enjoy your 4th.

Cheers,
Ed
