How important are 301 Redirects? Does anyone know if there are any J1.5 extensions available to create these?

Thanks.

Hi Cheryl

This is a "how long is piece of string?" question.

301 redirects become important in one situation: you are moving your domain or URLs and you have a lot of traffic.

In that situation, 301 redirects allow you to keep much of your traffic as your site moves.

In any other situation, you can safely ignore 301 redirects.
Ask. We'll help. It's as simple as that.

Thanks Steve! On additional question, how can I create a hidden menu link for my home page? i.e. I want williejolley.com/home to be synonymous with williejolley.com

Hi Cheryl,

Good question! There already are synonymous in Joomla, however you can 301 redirect williejolley.com/home to williejolley.com/

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Nick

Thanks Nick.

I just installed it on my site and added the URLs, but nothing has changed.

Should I be doing this as they state as well? If so, where exactly within the .htaccess file do I add it?

To redirect all the URLs included those one who would not be managed by Joomla! simply activate .htaccess standard Joomla! file, and add the following row to its:

ErrorDocument 404 /

Hi Cheryl,

For RSFirewall and the password given, I'm getting: "ERROR The password you have entered is not correct."

Could you double check the info that you sent me?

Kind regards,
Nick

No problem! Unfortunately, that password doesn't work either. I need one for RSFirewall. Clear your cookies and go to the administrator and you'll see what I mean :)

Hi Nick,

I just logged in using the credentials and Firewall info I gave you and logged in successfully. Any clue as to why you're not able to?

Hi Cheryl,

Thank you for your patience! It started working with the same credentials. Strange that it didn't work before.

As to your issue, looks like it's a bug somewhere. Try using a .htaccess redirect instead:
Redirect 301 /home http://williejolley.com/

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Nick
