Hi Howard,

Hope you had a good weekend!

Please create a backup of your site, then upgrade your Joomla version to 2.5.9 by unzipping the following .zip into your Joomla root:
joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/17...e-Update_Package.zip

That will reset all your core files and also update you to 2.5.9. Afterward, your site should be fixed.

Hello Nick,

Thanks for your quick response. I downloaded the update file and tried to unzip it with several unzip tools (php scripts that I found on the web) but they refuse to verwrite the existing files in the joomla root. The directories and file are set to chmod 777, so that should not be the problem.
I will start a new questions for this in the right category.
If that issue is solved i 'll post the result of your tip on this issue here,

Hi Howard,

Ok, it's likely a rogue plugin then. Please go to your configuration.php file and turn error reporting to "maximum" within it. The following tutorial should be of help for that:

Afterward, see if you get a detailed error message instead of a blank page.

I changed the configuration.php: literally toOn the administrator/index.php I don't get any error reports. Still just a blank page.


Now that you mentioned a rogue plugin, I suddenly remember installing the component extplorer 2.1.3 just before the issue of the blanc back-end page occured.
When I tried to run extplorer the first time i did not get any resluts.

I did remove the files of this component in both the components directory from the Joomla root and the adminstrator. I searched for any similar issue reports on the site extplorer.net/ but did not find anything.

But on the other hand I also did change user rights just before the issue occured. As you explained this was a bug in J2.5.1. Should I clean up something regarding to the session in de database ?

I'm looking at the site now and tried a few things that haven't worked. However, while looking at it in Firebug's net tab I noticed that almost all the media files display as 403 errors, which means they are restricted. For example, joomla251.howardwoei.nl/media/system/js/core-uncompressed.js . That's likely the reason why the admin is blank, though not necessarily. I'm trying a fix now and I'll let you know how it goes.

Your backend is accessible now. However, I'm still switching permissions (FTP takes a while) and will hopefully be done shortly.

Your site should be about as good as new now. I did a number of fixes (Permissions, fixed database, repaired and optimized tables, reset core files, etc).
