I'm a new member here, from Pennsylvania, USA. I am completely new to Drupal(and very frustrated/discouraged right now). I have been using, and modifying, WordPress for several years but now a new client wants a site done with Drupal, so I am trying to figure this out. I imagine I will ask many questions, as I am totally lost right now.

One thing I can't seem to get past is "Why"? Why should I use Drupal instead of Wordpress? Maybe if I can wrap my brain around that, things will start to click...

Grace and peace,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Welcome to the forum. Glad you've joined us.

Your very first question is a good one! Unfortunately there isn't any answer :(

Drupal is definitely a challenge. But we'll do our best to help you through it.

Cheers,
Ed

Hi and welcome, Paul!

Thanks for being a student!

Because the client is paying for it :) Ultimately, the way many of our decisions get decided is by delivering exactly what the client wants, even if we don't think it's best. Just express your opinion, let them decide, and then go with their decision in the end. That's my advice, go with your decision in the end :)

Drupal is ideal for larger, more complex sites that require flexibility and precision. One of the great things about Drupal is how flexible and precise it is. You'll learn to love the control that it gives you once you get used to it!

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Paul

Some specific examples from me:

1) URLs - I get frustrated by only having the ability to have one permalink structure for my whole WP site.

2) User Permissions - For an organization with a lot of members, Drupal's permissions are much more robust.

3) Data - Drupal does do a better job of handling actual data. WordPress starts to get little limited once you move beyond a simple Title and Body setup.

That being said, I also build in WP more than in Drupal.
Ask. We'll help. It's as simple as that.
