TOPIC: Install problem

Install problem 9 months 2 weeks ago #53250

Can someone help with issue? When I try and install Drupal 7 using Acquia Dev Desktop I get the following error:
Failed to connect to your database server. The server reports the following message: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2).

I get this error on custom install and when I try to install Drupal Commerce (via kickstart).

Thnaks

Update: If I change the server name from localhost to 127.0.0.1 the error changes to
The server reports the following message: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2013] Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 61.

Hi and welcome dsingh2001

This type of error is fairly common so it probably will be fixable.

Here's the first thing I'd try:

1) uninstall any other localhost installations you have such as WAMP or MAMP
2) uninstall Skype if you have it installed

There's also a related suggestion on the Acquia forums:

Ask. We'll help. It's as simple as that.

I don't have other installs of MAMP, etc or Skype. And the suggestion from the Acquia forum wasn't helpful. With wishful thinking, I've installed and uninstalled Acquia Dev Desktop on several occasions.

Would you know what configuration file MySql is looking at to form the "/tmp/mysql.sock" path?

Thanks again,

Dave

Update: Using phpMyAdmin I checked the Socket variable and it points (correctly) to /Applications/acquia-drupal/mysql/data/mysql.sock so I'm not sure what's causing MySql to look for the socket in /tmp.

Hi dsingh2001,

It looks like there are two problems possible here. There's a bug in Drupal, please read this
drupal.org/node/1005566

Although it may be a simple port conflict.
forums.acquia.com/acquia-products-and-se...-stack-port-80-issue

Here's an installation guide you might want to look at to see if you've got it all set up correctly.drupal.org/node/1248034

Let us know if this points you in the right direction or not.

Cheers,
Ed

Thanks so much for your help.

However, in my frustration I abandoned the Acquia install on my Mac. I guess I could have hacked a work around by creating a symbolic link to the socket. Oh Well.

I decided to install MAMP instead. This produced one install problem with an AJEX error - that required I me upped the php memory limit. Then installed the latest Drupal Commerce. The problem here showed up as a list of errors pointing to the RULES module. A fix, found at drupal.org/node/1660516 solved it.
