I downloaded the theme Vert and it said I had to also download a font with this theme. I downloaded the font and doesn't make any difference if it is there or not. When I downloaded the font, I put it into the folder: sites/default/themes/vert/fonts. Is there something I need to do to allow the theme to recognize this font file?

I don't have access to this theme so I can't say for sure. It's probably best to ask the developers.

However there are modules that will allow you to add fonts to any Drupal website, and you might be able to use one. drupal.org/project/fontyourface

Also, make sure you've unzipped the fonts files and placed the contents of the unzipped folder into your sites/default/themes/vert/fonts folder.
