Drupal 7 beginner class problems 1 year 1 month ago #45722

Hi,
in the Drupal 7 beginner class there is a section class (part4 session8) things are rather unclear. It tells me to install a date module. I installed and tried enabling the module but for it to work Drupal wants all sorts of other modules installed and/or enabled. I cant get the same field type options to be displayed as in the section task.

Where can I find more information on this?
I am sing Drupal v. 7.14 installed on localhost.

HS.

Hi and welcome HS

Yes, often the Date module will require you to install other modules. It depends on what modules you already have installed.

When you go to Modules > Date, are all the modules next to "Date" marked in green or are some of the marked in Red as missing?
Ask. We'll help. It's as simple as that.

Hi Steve.

No, all the required modules are installed. I´ll just skip the section task, I´ll look into that later. But in my opinion, it should be more thorough, it creates a negative effect on the overall experience of the otherwise fine course.

no worries,

Hans Stein.

Hi Hans

Thanks, we'll see if we can test that particular sessions some more and see if we can make it clearer.

I hope it's okay to tail onto this thread. I'm new to your site and to Drupal. I've enjoyed the video/lessons.

Personally, this Part 4, Session 8 had me stumped, for awhile. I think it's a little soon to have someone add a module with no real instruction or more detail for the configuration of the module, beforehand.

Anyway, I managed to get it installed, but still had no idea which items in the modules listings to enable. There are many in the "Date" section. I enabled the ones I thought I needed by watching the Lullabot free video and trial and error. Good thing you talked about deleting content and content types in the Session 7.

Here are some hints to others who may run into these same issues:

Once you figure out how to install the module, you need to go to modules and enable and configure certain elements:

Date - enable
Date API - enable
Date Popups - enable and may need select the jquery timepicker in Configure.
Date Tools - enable and configure using the Date Wizard link within Configure.

The sample Field settings screen shown in Session 8 is the screen you see when configure options and advanced options of the Date wizard. (not the field settings when configuring the content type as accustomed to seeing in previous sessions) This wizard creates a Date content type and fields you can use when creating other content types, namely a Festivals content type.

Hope this helps other beginners.

Hi Connie and Hans,

Thanks for the followup Connie. I am going to suggest to Steve that we at least add an addendum to the notes section for that session for now with your tips.

This kind of feedback is really great and helps everyone. We appreciate this very much.

Cheers,
Ed

Thank you so very much conniew5347! That was exactly where I was stuck and at a loss with the Date Module. I didn't at all know which ones to check off. Thanks, again!

Thanks for updating this post guys. The date module is one that gets updated pretty frequently - and its caused some confusion.

I just added Connie's notes to the session notes.
