I know that the Drupal version I am using is not the most recent and I believe there are more updated ones which include several more features such as the ability to control the font, the color of the text, and so forth. I am completely new to Drupal and don't want to try anything that could cause me to lose any of my existing data on the site (I'm one of those people who "inherited" the website). Is there an info sheet or video that can take me through updating Drupal to Drupal 7? Also, is there any relationship between my hosting company what version of Drupal I can use? Thanks very much for any help.

Hi and welcome, lchary!

Are you using Drupal 6 or an older version of Drupal 7? It sounds like you might be using Drupal 6. If so, you can use the following tutorial to migrate from Drupal 6 to 7:

Kind regards,
Nick

I have Drupal 6.14. I went to the link you gave me, and it says I cannot update from 6.1 to 7 but have to go to 6.25 first? Can you clarify? Browsing through my different administrator files, it says I have a ton of updates, etc. I did run "cron" and it seems to been ok, and then returned with all the various pink messages. It seems to me I should get through all of this stuff before I actually start the tutorials. Security updates throughout, and then some yellow version updates as well. I'm too paranoid to just start clicking away! Your help is greatly appreciated. P.S. - I grabbed the page (e.g., the "Available Updates" page) and saved it a Word document - would it be useful to send it as an attachment here?

You might want to read over this page
drupal.org/upgrade
A major release upgrade requires you to first update to the current minor release prior to applying the major release update. If 6.19 is the current version of Drupal 6, and your site is running 6.13, you would first need to update to 6.19 and then apply the update to the current major version 7.

However you don't have to go through 6.1 to 6.1.2 etc. You can skip the minor upgrades and go to the latest Joomla 6 upgrade.

Make a duplicate site and do it on a test site first.
