Hi everyone,

The following site is a really easy, interactive way to learn the basics of Git:
try.github.com

I hope it helps someone!

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,
Thanks for sharing this link. Is github suitable for leading a project by independent developers? Is it good practice to have developers with different specialisms working on a Joomla site at all? Does Github help me as owner/manager to control what is the development process?
Kind regards,
Alex

Yes, it is.

I'm assuming this is non-github related...Yes, just as long as someone is able to oversee everyone's work and direct people appropriately, otherwise it can get messy. Either way, proper access control needs to be set for everyone and that makes life much easier in the long run.

Yes, in regards to code, however if you're not able to work with it, then it's of little use. It can be hard to learn to be honest.

Hope this helps! :)

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick, Thanks for your answer! I think Github may be interesting for me. I will ask my questions about "having developers with different specialisms working on a Joomla site" on the Joomla support forum, as this is probably off-topic for this thread. I will surely try to find out more about Github using your link. One question which I will try to find out first is Github vs Akeeba: does Github make Akeeba redundant? Or are they serving different purposes (development vs maintenance/security).
Kind regards,
Alex

Hi Alex,

You're welcome! :)

Akeeba has a lot of products so you'd have to let me know which one you're referring to. Either way, it's likely different purposes because I can't think of any Akeeba products that do anything close to GitHub. Akeeba Release System and Akeeba Unite would be the closest out of the Akeeba products that I can think, but even those are very different from github.

Let me know your thoughts and I'll be glad to answer!

Kind regards,
Nick
