I've made a copy of my default template at chicagohighlands.com. What should I edit to eliminate the left position entirely, while still keeping the footer centered. (I feel like I'm making more of a mess of things than I need to deleting the 'left' and 'update' div ids in the index file, the navigation in css etc.)

Hi Quincy,

We'd highly recommend going through all our training in this order:
1) Joomla 1.5 Template Design
2) HTML Class
3) CSS Class
4) PHP Class

Those classes will give you more than enough information to make the changes that you're wanting to make. Also, Firebug is a great tool to help speed up the process. Here's our tutorial on it:
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/using-fir...it-joomla-templates/

Hope this helps! :)

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Quincy,

Just be sure you are using a test site for all your experimentation. That will save you lots of headaches.

I'm not sure what your end goal is, but you should be able to turn the modules off on the pages where you don't want it to show. Looks like you have a menu module in the navigation position and another module in the left position.

Do you need to modify the template or can you just turn them off?

Also look into using template overrides
docs.joomla.org/Understanding_Output_Overrides
docs.joomla.org/How_to_override_the_outp...rom_the_Joomla!_core

Nick, I understand the "teach a man to fish" thing :) Believe me, I've been teaching myself to fish for a couple years now.

I've deleted the #navigation and #update coding but I can't find the coding to remove vertical line and color change in that left position in the screen.css file. Also cannot get that footer to center properly after removing those left positions.

Hi Quincy,

Could you upload an annotated screenshot of what you're trying to do? Fireshot for Firebug is great for annotated screenshots. Here's our tutorial on it:

Looking forward to helping.

Kind regards,

I want to open up the left side for the events page, while leaving the right module and footer position intact - i guess I would have to recenter the footer. So removing the left position, color, and borders.
