| Unable to connect to Database - Joomla and MAMP |
|
Hello Steve, I'd installed MAMP in my "Applications" folder, and per Rod's instructions... I set preferences in the "Document Root" using MAMP's "Apache" tab to this: "Users/goldilocks/Sites" Today I used my Finder and found that I have 2 "htdocs" folders... One is listed as: "Applications/MAMP/htdocs" and the other is listed as: "goldilocks/Sites/htdocs." My Joomla website is in the folder: ".../Sites/htdocs/samplesite" Now I'm finally getting to the ‘root’ of my question. When I installed the extension "Eventlist" in Session 30, I wanted to show actual text for the days of week and month (not numbers), but when I clicked on the link that sits beside the box where I’d change the “formula,” the “php.net” website appeared with a bunch of code to choose from. With that in mind, I figured that while learning Joomla, I would need to know a bit of PHP in order to make changes like this myself. I picked up a beginner PHP book, created a php test page, setup a test server for my DW site to test the php page... It works when I type in the url in browser... BUT when I click on the page in Dreamweaver to see the page in my browser... the message reads: “Unable to connect.” I've tried connecting to both of those “htdocs” folders unsuccessfully. Which one do I use? Now that I think about it, I don’t know if that’s where the server is. I just looked in my “Application/MAMP” folder and found a “db” folder in MAMP. Do I use that? Or, do I need to set up another database for Dreamweaver to use? I started using instructions (see link below) I'd found on Adobe's site, but when I get to the end of the instructions page where it says "Next step is to create a MySQL database and user account"... I'm told to verify that my webserver and MySQL server are running. I see the green lights ON the MAMP control panel, but when I enter "http://localhost/phpmyadmin/” per their instructions in my browser, I get that “Unable to connect” message. BUT, I can access this page by using the MAMP control panel and clicking on the "phpMyAdmin" tab in MAMP's start page. So, are my servers running? Another ‘elementary’ question because... Duh... my Joomla samplesite I installed is working. Sorry, this is so long... I'm total a database babe! Do I need to use this "phpMyAdmin" screen from MAMP and follow these instructions: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/setting_up_php_06.html to create a new database to use with Dreamweaver CS3 for learning PHP? Or, can I use the database that was set up when I installed Joomla? Wow! This reminds me that when I started your course, I wondered if I would need a database for each Joomla I installed? Thanks in advance! P.S. Have you noticed that this ‘baby joomer’ is trying to remain positive by using the word “elementary” instead of words like “stupid” or “dumb”? I appreciate your patience!
