Hi there - I am trying to link menu items to directly open files (whether a pdf or a doc) I am a little confused on the process. In order I:
1) opened media manager
2) created new folders for pdfs and docs within stories folder

However when I go to link the menu to the file it all starts to get fuzzy. Here's what I did so far:
a) created a section called HR
b) created categories Benefits and Personnel under HR
c) created menu items under each category, some are weblinks (which I have working okay - accomplished by creating a menu item that was an external link and put in the web address)
d) now I need to create menu items that are links to the pdf or doc but I am not sure whether I should do an external link menu item with the path to file ex. c:\xampp\htdocs\joomla\images\stories\pdf\pdfname because what if that file path changes when I transfer the site from the local server? or if I should just create an article and have the link in there. I don't think I want to do that though because I want the pdf/doc to open when they click on the menu item just like the external web link.
Help?
