I am just about to delete my site and have another go at copying up from localhost to the hosting provider and thought I would see if there is an answer before doing so.
On this site I followed a beginners tutorial that described how to install locally and then copy to remote using akeeba but it has been an ordeal, anyone carrying out this should be very wary.
This is a temporary URL given by the ISP. Initially, they told me that the problem was due to this fact but if the URL is permanent the same error occurs. Click on most menu items gives '404 - Component not found'.
The instructions that I followed are at:

The backup did not run completely smoothly which is why I wonder if the best approach is to delete all and start again. The first thing that I should have checked prior to running is the php version, it needs to be 5 mine was not. The next thing that happened was a permissions issue on the installation directory. It needs to be 777. However, the ISP have it set-up so any directory with 777 has execution permission denied and advised that I set to 775.
The kickstart script has run and the directory structure appears to be ok. Sites with this ISP have a public_html in which all files are present. I notice that the parent of this has a .htaccess. Within the directory I noticed a htaccess.txt file that I renamed to .htaccess and then I tried to configure SEF URLs to see if the problem was anything to do with this. But it did not solve it.
Has anyone seen this before? Is the best solution to delete all files and start again? Or, do I need to post something on the kickstart site forum (if there is one)?
