Hi Steve:
First of all, let me congratulate all of you guys for a great job of teaching us Joomla users through your courses, tutorials and forums. I've been a subscriber for just a short time and I think OS Training is probably the greatest thing that happened to Joomla. I can't say the same for the official Joomla documentation....it takes hours to find answers to your questions, if at all.
Second, I'd like to contribute by making some operational suggestions. The first one has to do with the way you classify your forums into Newcomers, then a free forum where you can discuss anything, and then extensions. I find this confusing. How do we choose what to to post on the free forum? Wouldn't it be better if you'd divide them into Newcomers-Intermediate-Advanced? But even then, how would we know which category our question fits into? I myself feel that since I've been with you, I have progressed from Beginner to Intermediate.....but who's to say so?
Really, I think the easiest way to classify them would be by Joomla's toolbar: Site, Menus, Content, Components, Extensions, Tools, Help.....and maybe add General Topics. Can't speak about WordPress or Drupal because I don't use those programs. That way everyone would know for sure which forum to use, and it would be easier to locate previous postings referring to a particular topic.
And, I suggest that you set up a separate forum for posting like this one, having to do not with Joomla, Drupal or WordPress but with how the forums operate. I got this idea from LinkedIn Answers. Something else I like about it is that, once you are satisfied with the answers you got and no longer want any more comments, you can close your question. You might want to consider something like this, maybe an icon with a lock on it, meaning you no longer need to go back to that question for new feedback. And for you, it would mean that your user is satisfied and does not want to carry on with that topic.
I also would like to know whether OS Training allows subscribers to comment to other subscribers' postings, or to ask additional questions regarding their postings, thus preventing having to open up a totally new thread. I haven't seen anyone comment or add questions on the topics I bring up, and I don't need to because your answers are sufficient to me. But when I read someone else's postings, sometimes I don't understand something and would like to ask you to clarify what was meant, but don't know how.
As for the star ratings, I think it's a good idea because it encourages users to be very active in the forums.
I hope this helps.
Thanks a lot for your dedication and, keep up the great work!
