I am a complete newbie to Joomla, so please bear with me.

I had installed on my server in a sub directory the JA Quartz template. It was working ok, just a few bugs here or there until I had to change the permissions on the images so that I could change all of them to the images I need to build the site. I received a lot of advice as to what state I should chmod them to. First I tried 777, and for some reason the images would no longer load when I opened the page. So I tried 766, 755, and 666 with the same result each time. Now I feel like I have tried everything and still I get the same result. I even tried deleting the entire images directory and reloading it, and still get the same result. Can any one help me figure out what's going on with this crazy thing?
