How to Add Video or Audio to a Joomla Article

This week we'll walk you through how to embed video and audio into an article.

We're going to use a plugin called AllVideos

Here's how you do it:

  1. Download the AllVideos plugin from JoomlaWorks.
  2. In the administration area of your Joomla site, go to Extensions >> Install / Uninstall and upload the file to install.
  3. In the administration area of your Joomla site, go to Extensions >> Plugin Manager and find and enable the plugin 'AllVideos (by JoomlaWorks)'.
  4. Insert video or audio into an article using 'tags' as described in the Available Tags page provided by JoomlaWorks. For example, if you wish to include a YouTube video into an article, you will surround the 'video id' in the tags as such {youtube}video id here{/youtube} (the 'video id' of a YouTube video comes right after the ?v= in the URL for the video)

Using this great plugin you can embed videos from many sources that host videos as well as your own hosted videos and audio files.

I did this and got a message that my audio file was too large. I need to be able to play a long message of about 45-60 minutes for my client, how can I do this?

Hi Vicki.

Many servers have a maximum upload of 2 MB.

You may need to ask your hosting company to raise this limit.

This does not work for me. All i see is the {youtube}he73js822|600|450|1{/youtube} displayed on my article when i use the tag. can you please provide a more detailed STEP BY STEP guide?

I tried to use allvideos in Joomla 1.6 but unfortunately return error. IS your tutorial only for 1.5 ????

Hi Peter,

AllVideos is only available for Joomla 1.5. You can try a 1.6/1.7 native video player instead:
extensions.joomla.org/.../...

Also, I'd highly recommend that you upgrade your Joomla version to 1.7 (and update all extensions before that), ASAP. Here's an easy tutorial on how to upgrade:
