How to Use the Modules Anywhere Extension

23791Modules Anywhere is one of the niftiest plugins you can use in Joomla.

The extension is named well: It allows you to put a module anywhere on your site.

With the click of a button you can place a module inside an article or inside another module. It makes it easy to place and also control the looks of all your modules.

Video on Using Modules Anywhere

Whitelabel player for videos with bumpers. Doesn't start automatically so use for demos and tutorials.

Step 1: Download and Install Modules Anywhere

tutuploadsStep_1_-_Download_and_Install.png

You can find complete directions on installing modules and plugins by clicking here - or try clicking on the context sensitive help icon and the extension manager page.

If all goes well you will get a "Success" message, and a notice to clear your browsers cache.(Here's a link with some cache clearing instructions if you need them). Clearing the cache will allow the changes made by the plugin to be viewed immediately.

After uploading there will be two plugins installed, one that allows displaying the modules in the system, and another places a button on the bottom of the editing window that will insert the module.

The plugins will be automatically enabled, so you don't have to deal with that.

Step 2: Using Modules Anywhere

You will know everything is ready if you go to edit an article and see the "Insert Module" button.

Click the button. You will see a list of modules.

Choose the one you want and click on it. You will see the code that will insert the module in the editing window. You won't see the actual module. When you preview the page you will see the result.

tutuploadsmedia_1308360519623.png

I placed a login form in the main content area on the article. Above you see the code that was inserted after clicking the button and choosing the module. The illustration below shows the preview view.

tutuploadsmedia_1308360459028.png

Step 3: Configuring Modules Anywhere

  • Click the "Insert Module" Button.
  • At the top left of the popup window you can select some basic styling. This will help you quickly fit the module into the format of your page.

tutuploadsStep_2_-_Configuring_the_Module.png

If you want more detailed control. You can go to the plugin manager and you will have a comprehensive menu or style and permission controls. You can not only affect the way it looks, and also who gets to use it.

tutuploadsmedia_1308361239876.png
  • Click Extensions > Plugin Manager
  • Search or scroll and find the plugin named "System - Modules Anywhere"
  • Click on the title of the article (or click the select box and then the edit icon at the top of the page).
tutuploadsmedia_1308361515496.png

You'll see a complete menu of options that allow you to set many display options.

Hello...
Downloaded the ModulesAnywhere-v1.11.4_language_en-GB.

I am using joomla 1.6.3. It loaded successfully, but there are no System - Modules Anywhere nor Editor Button - Modules anywhere Plugins. Additionally, ISert Module does not appear in the Article Editor. I tried both Tiny-MCE and JoomlaCK.

Can you help...Thanks

Nick
#2 Nick 2011-07-29 19:45

Hi Christoph,

Make sure you're downloading the plugin and not the language file for the plugin :) It should be a big green button.

Also, your Joomla version version is out of date and it's recommended that you upgrade to Joomla 1.6.6 at the very least since Joomla 1.6.3 has known security issues. You can use this tutorial to get to Joomla 1.6.6:
ostraining.com/.../...

then you can use this tutorial to upgrade to Joomla 1.7.0:
ostraining.com/.../...

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi
Great mod
Can you help with this
I have placed the mod on an article it is a search box
The problem I have is I have various parts of the search disabled on the rest of the site but when I place modanywhere it shows all the disabled functions
(hope that makes sense)
I need to keep the original mod on other pages as they are with parts disabled (not using mod anywhere)

Hello. i´ve got a question. I have succesfully installed the module. But when i insert a module within a module, the module comes up on the screen twice... Once as it should be "anywhere within a module" and once where the module is addressed it should be. I use Joomla 1.5 i.c.w. DJCatalog2.

Hope anyone can help me.

Grtz, Dennis

Hi!

Thanks for the great work!

I have a problem though...

I have a picture in user 1 modul already.

So I wanne place text AND another picture in the user 2 modul. (I wanna use Modules Anywhere for this)

However... My picture in user 2 should be oni the RIGHT of the text. What happens is that I inserte the picture tage, but then the rest of the text is pushed BELOW the picture..

I need it to be the same hight..

Like This:
USER1-picture USER2 TEXT USER2 Picture

Make sense??

I use joomla 1.5.22. How to put the module in "center" of the article?

Nick
#15 Nick 2011-11-20 21:56

Hi Elios,

First, you should updated to 1.5.25 as soon as possible. There have been several security fixes since 1.5.22. Here's a good tutorial how to upgrade:
ostraining.com/.../...

To center a module, you can put a div around it with inline css set to center. If you want to learn more about HTML or CSS to make your life easier, check out our online classes: www.ostraining.com/online which includes Joomla, HTML, and CSS to name a few.

Kind regards,
Nick

The module is excellent. I wish to add modules aligning to left with limited width in an article. How to do?

Nick
#17 Nick 2011-11-27 20:07

Hi Santosh,

I'm glad that you're liking the module.

To left align a module, you can put a div around it with inline css set to left align. You can also use inline css to limit the width as well. If you want to learn more about HTML or CSS to make your life easier, check out our online classes: www.ostraining.com/online which includes Joomla, HTML, and CSS to name a few.

Hope this helps get you going in the right direction!

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi! First off I want to say great extension and demo.

The problem I am having is once I try and add a module anywhere on the joomla site, the new module will not load at all. I can click on the link at the bottom of the page that says "Insert Module" and get to the next page, but once at the "Modules Anywhere" page nothing happens, no matter what I click on. It will not accept anything I click on and will not load anything into my module or article! What am I doing wrong?

Nick
#19 Nick 2011-11-28 23:03

You're welcome, Natalie!

What browser and browser version are you using? Could you try it quick in a different browser?

Are you getting any error messages?

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi, interesting plugin. Can make it work within content and in template positions when there is a menu item, but not when there is not a menu item linked to a page. So not working on a regular non-menu item link.

I must be missing something.

How can I put a module in a component by using module anywhere?

Nick
#23 Nick 2011-12-06 04:08

Hi Kent,

Does the component have an area with a WYSIWYG editor?

Kind regards,
Nick

Kent
#24 Kent 2011-12-06 04:12

It doesn't. It only can create a menu and link to the component. It doesn't have the WYSIWYG editor, can I still do that?

Nick

Unfortunately not, then.

Hi guys,

I'm having some problems using this extension. I've installed and cleaned cache, but when I make a new article and press the 'Insert Module' button one of the 2 following things happens:
1. Firefox: blank screen with no modules displayed
2. Explorer: I get the following message: The website cannot display the page
HTTP 500
Most likely causes:
The website is under maintenance.
The website has a programming error.

Nick
#27 Nick 2011-12-07 19:19

Hi liviu,

Can you turn on error reporting to maximum in your global configuration then try it again in Firefox? Hopefully you'll get a detailed error message.

Kind regards,
Nick

Nick:

Superb module!

I have a problem. I have a map module I would like to place on the right side of my page. The map module installs fine but placement is the problem.

gsr.besthomeoption.biz/.../...

I want the picture of the house on the left, like it is and the (house) Description on the right of the house picture and the map on the right of the Description.

My problem is getting the Map to the right of the Description???

Please advise,

Alan

Nick
#31 Nick 2011-12-27 15:30

Hi Alan,

You'd have to put a div around the house and float it left like so:

and then do the same for the module. Put a div around it and float it left.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi,
Is it possible to load a module in between articles in blog view? I need to load a module between the 1st and 2nd article in blog layout on a featured articles page.

Hi Taswa,

You can just use the ordering in module manager.

Kind regards,
Nick

Nick
#37 Nick 2012-02-01 09:04

Hi Goli,

You can load the module within one of the articles. If you're loading it in the first article then you want to load it at the end and vice versa.

Kind regards,
Nick

Goli
#38 Goli 2012-02-01 09:10

It's not an option. There are several new articles added daily and the older just scroll down. I specifically need to load a module in between 1 and 2 article, NOT WITHIN an article (this I know how to do).
